WINTER HOLIDAY PASSES HOA STAFF PROFILE: GEORGE ESCALANTE By Joanne Deacon George is our latest employee, and the success he's achieved in life mirrors the effort he shows in his work at The Colony. As you'll see, he's a returning employee in a new position. Please give him a warm Colony welcome! In George's own words… My name is George Escalante and thank you for welcoming me into your community. My earlier life was tremendously different compared to the life I've been blessed with and built for myself now. I'm a current Murrieta resident, but I grew up in the gang- ridden streets of Logan Heights in San Diego. Coming from a family of 12, it was a full house to say the least, and there wasn't a time I could say I had to myself until I began my first job at 15 at a mom-and-pop shop. The owners mentored and guided me and urged me to leave the neighborhood when I turned 18 and to have an actual chance of pursuing a future. I did just that and went to work at Safeway working up to a meat cutter position. This led to a passion for cooking that I still share with my children. Then I began pursuing a Criminal Justice degree at Mesa College and began working at the Dept. of Corrections, working in Administrative Segregation (The Hole) and in Special Transport, transporting prisoners throughout the state. After establishing my career, I met the love of my life, married in 1991, and we were blessed with a daughter and son. I retired in 2017 and our family moved to Murrieta, and I began pursuing my passions for gardening and cooking. As amazing as retired life is, it quickly became mundane, and I began searching for a new position. Most people don't know this, but I previously worked in The Colony as overnight security. Remaining in contact with Dennis, he informed me about the maintenance opening so here I am. I enjoy interacting with this community's wonderful residents. I look forward to serving the community, establishing new friendships, and making a positive impact on the community.
