Cha-Cha is a fun dance that originated in Cuba and evolved from a slow version of Cuban Mambo. It became very popular in the United States in the mid-1950s. It has been described as an "exuberant dance that will get your heart pumping and put a smile on your face." Cha-Cha has become one of the most popular Latin dances in the world. It is a popular dance for lots of formal occasions like weddings and other social gatherings. It can also be a competitive ballroom dance and can often be seen in performances such as Dancing with the Stars. The Practice Parties will resume after the first of the new year. They are held in Abravanel Hall from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. Experienced OHCC dancers review Wednesday's lessons and provide help upon request. You can practice your dancing to a variety of ballroom music. The party is FREE, just drop in. These parties are open to all residents of OHCC and guests of members. The annual membership dues for the Ballroom Dance Club are $10 per person. With this membership, you will receive regular emails describing club activities as well as discounts for dances and lessons. To join, just drop your check off at the front desk. Indicate your email address(s) on the check. New members who join in November or December will have their dues carry over for 2023. On Dec. 1 at the Dance Troupe holiday party, we will celebrate a wonderful year of dancing and we will welcome our 2023 Board. Marcia Ward and Phyllis Buvel will continue as co-presidents, Nancy Tremino will be vice-president, Karla Sando will be treasurer and Martha Cannon will continue as secretary. 2022 saw us coming back from the pandemic, starting a ballet class, and putting on our "Dancing Under the Big Top" performance. We welcomed new dancers and made new friends. We learned about Bob Fosse and "jazz hands," got a lot of good exercise, and, most important, had fun. In 2023, we will be learning new skills, making new friends and strengthening our troupe's esprit de corps. We are starting to learn new dances for our next performance which will be performed in the spring, 2024. We are getting wild in the Wild, Wild West! It is the perfect time for you to join us in one or more of our classes. You can learn the elements of dance in a fun and easy atmosphere.
