| OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2022 | 15 Village Squares Village Squares had a spooktacular Halloween party with a wonderful array of costumes and delicious food prepared by our own chefs! It was a great night of food, fun, and plenty of dancing. We enjoyed welcoming guests of Robert Gross and are always happy to have our members bring friends from other clubs. Now we look forward to the holiday season, and plans are underway. Our party is Dec. 7, and we look forward to holiday themed tables, festive attire, good friends, and plenty of dancing. Guests will be asked to bring a main dish, salad, or dessert. Special punch will again be served, and table settings provided. Our club is now learning or relearning plus moves, so the whole club will be able to join in the plus dances in addition to everything learned in Social Square Dance. We also are thrilled to once again have an open house to introduce our modern square dance to newcomers. This will occur on Jan. 18, with a new beginner class to begin Jan. 25. We look forward to welcoming new dancers to experience the fun and fellowship of our friendly group. Line Dancers How's your brain? When you exercise, the levels of chemicals in your brain that encourage nerve cells to grow are increased and since dancing requires you to remember various steps and sequences, your brain power is boosted, which helps to improve your memory! Dancing also incorporates several brain functions at once – kinesthetic, rational, musical, and emotional. Utilizing all of these at the same time can further increase your neural activity, helping reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease and dementia. It's a lot of fun too! Although some of our songs are country western – most are not. Just last week we were learning a dance to Hernando's Hide-away, a tango! Line dance classes are once a week: Beginner (1): Tues., 10:30 – 11:30 am Improver (2): Mon., 12:30 Intermediate (3): Thurs., 2:30 – 4 pm (schedule may vary, call Sunny to confirm) Want to try it out? Come on by, Beginner's class is $5 (60 minutes). Other levels are $7 (90 minutes). You don't have to be a club member for the first couple of 'try it' classes. After that, you will also need to join the club. Dues are $10/year. If you are interested in participating in our activities and are not sure who to reach out to for further information, please call Sunny Griffin (970) 708-0443. Also, please visit our website, https:// ohccvillagelinedan.wixsite.com/linedancing. Our Halloween party was a huge success. Many thanks to Marylu and Alan Belisle, Vicki Green and Skip Dunham, Carol and Nelson Agudelo, Margo and Scott Barnard, and Barb and Rob Ehlen for making it all happen. Outrageous costumes and great music by the five-piece band, Hot Pursuit, made it a fun time. They kicked off the party with Monster Mash which brought out all the goblins. You could see Snow White and Sleepy (aka, Karen and Tex Burke, The Seven Deadly Sins, Baseball players, convicts, and the warden (in the background), Cat in the Hat, Waldo, Sailors, Hippies, Gypsies, Cowgirls and Indians, Rock Stars, and a gigantic baby who had a resemblance to the Doo Wop Board's Treasurer, Jim Kaminsky. If you would like to learn how to become a member of the Doo Wop & Disco Dance Club, ask the front desk for a Doo Wop Club membership form or print one from "Social Clubs/Doo Wop Club" on the OceanHillsCountryClub.com website. Just complete the information, put it in an envelope marked Doo Wop Club. Enclose a check for $10 per person for dues through 2023. Make checks payable to "OH Doo Wop Club" and drop it by the Clubhouse front desk. We will send you information about the upcoming parties. Hope to see you on the dance floor in 2023!
