| OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2022 | 19 Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director By Carol Jones No matter how one celebrates the holidays, residents and guests will be pleased how festive the Clubhouse and OHCC community looks. Another chance to get holiday celebrations started are FOUR SHOPPING TRIPS WEEKLY to various local destinations. Planning on a lunch date with friends? Need a last minute assortment of supplies for unexpected guests? Trader Joe's, Stater Brothers, Walmart, Target, ALDI, Costco etc. is on the route. Leave the driving to John. He collects from home and delivers back in approximately two hours. Check out the latest shuttle schedule available in the rack at the Clubhouse. Happy Holidays. Join happy shoppers on the shuttle. Saving gas would even make the GRINCH happy. Holiday Happiness Happenings A happy holiday wish to all residents and their families. The celebrations begins with the holiday decorations going up, the outdoor white lights lit, wreaths hung at the front and back gates, and the Lobby holiday tree showered with a California snow. The color theme this year is Mediterranean to fit in with the color palette chosen for the recent renovation. The Garden Club and the CIMC have worked together to provide a beautiful display for those who visit the Clubhouse during the holidays. Thank you to our team of elves who helped decorate, providing a holiday spirit for all to enjoy. The Annual Holiday Parade is in the line-up for December's programming. Sign-ups are being taken at the Clubhouse Front Desk. We will be departing from the Overflow Parking Lot beginning at 4 pm, on Tues., Dec. 13. All our registrants will receive a thank-you gift for their participation. A map of the route is on page 20 of this issue of OHCC Living. For those watching from their driveway, pour some hot toddies, prepare appetizers, and gather friends to help share your holiday cheer. Last year it was a bit chilly, so dress warmly! The Clubhouse is hosting over 14 special events in December. The Clubhouse will close on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve at 5 pm. The Clubhouse will have regular hours on Sun., Jan. 1, 2023, open from 6 am to 11 pm. The Recreation Department's New Year's Eve Party is Sat., Dec. 31, with tickets available for $60 per person. This includes catered charcuterie boards, tapas, beverages, wine, and dancing. Guests are welcome to attend. The Corvelles will be the highlight of this year's celebration. They are well-known on the San Diego entertainment circuit, and will help us raise the roof with their Motown sound. The Corvelles are unique, appealing to all ages. This will be an evening all attendees will remember long after the night is over! For those who have yet to sign up for clubs, the Do Dues Day event will allow new members to meet and greet club officers and class instructors. The date for this annual event is Sat., Jan. 14, from 10 am to 2 pm. Come with a checkbook (yes, we said "checkbook") to sign up for a favorite club. Some of the clubs will honor early registration. The Clubhouse front desk serves as a mailbox for all matters, and if you're unable to attend, checks can be dropped off in the club's envelope. We continue to honor checks in the Clubhouse. There are plans to have the ability to charge for copies, faxes, and payments for services through a credit card reader called a Square. We are anxiously waiting for the process to be instituted. Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, and a joyous holiday season to all! We would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to the Association for a memorable 2022. Thank you for the gifts of appreciation, the encouraging comments, and your continued support. People will ask staff whether the place we work at is a safe place to be. We have said "of course!" This is one of the many reasons we enjoy working here. The most threatening thing we have seen, lately, is a large, plump, coyote gallivanting across the Overflow Parking Lot area. Lol. Stay safe, come join us for our New Year's Eve Gala. With no parking fees, savings on gas, and just a short drive home in your golf cart, this is a no-brainer. Ring in 2023! Happy New Year Wish A Happy New Year wish for you Is for your best year yet, A year where life is peaceful, And what you want, you get. A year in which you cherish The past year's memories, And live your life each new day, Full of bright expectancies. We wish for you a holiday With happiness galore; And when it is done, we wish you a Happy New Year, and many more.
