30 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2022 | Happy Holidays OHCC! The Travel Club Board is excited about trips and events highlighted below for the remainder of this year and into 2023. • Dec. 12 – TRIP: We will be traveling to The Mission Inn in Riverside to view over four million lights decorating the Inn and its grounds, which has been a tradition at the Inn since 1992. Sorry you missed the bus; this trip is SOLD OUT. • Jan. 9 – PROGRAM: We are really excited about Kicking-Off 2023 with a special night in Abravanel Hall. For Travel Club members only (2022 and new and renewing members for 2023), we will have an expanded Social Hour with refreshments (mini-sandwiches, chips, desserts, etc.). A presentation will follow by Joe Ashby and Dee Wardell highlighting their trip to Turkey. If you want to attend, please email Lynn Opelka (sislynn6510@gmail.com). • Jan. 17 – TRIP: We start our day at L.A.'s historic Farmers Market for shopping and lunch. Then we're off to Paramount Pictures Studio tour. A tour guide will lead us on a two-hour tour in seven- person carts for a behind-the-scenes look at the longest operating and only remaining major studio in Hollywood. • March 23 – TRIP: Join us for our trip to visit Sights around San Diego, led by tour guides. Stops include Mt. Soledad, San Diego Central Library and Barrio Logan! Lunch is also included. • Aug. 1 – TRIP: We are off to see the fabulous Pageant of the Masters. Presented in an outdoor amphitheater, this ninety-minute show presents "living pictures" recreating classical and contemporary works of art, with real people posing to look exactly like their counterparts in the original pieces. The theme is "Art Colony: In the Company of Artists." Complete information about each of our trips is available in the Clubhouse. To sign up for a trip, please leave a check, with proof of vaccination attached, made out to the OH Travel Club and put it in the Travel Club Envelope at the Clubhouse Front Desk. Add $5 if you are not a member of the Travel Club. We certainly hope you will come and join us on one of our trips or at one of our events! ~ Your Travel Club Board, Callie Dean, Donna Wessel-Graham, Lynn Opelka, Amy Blount, and Judy Buoniconti Travel Club Woodchucks On Nov. 19, for the OHCC Donation Drive-Thru Toy Drive, Santa's elves were very busy organizing, singing, hosting Marines, and collecting the holiday gifts as the cars lined up in the overflow parking lot. Those energetic elves represented the Garden Club, the Veterans' Club, the Sewing Club, the OHCC Chorale, and the Woodchucks. Thanks for the hand-crafted toys built with love and imagination. Thanks for the handmade heirloom cribs, built by the Woodchucks and hand-painted by their talented artists. Thanks to our sewing club for the color-coordinated quilts and stockings. Thanks for all the bikes, scooters, balls and dolls that our OHCC community donated. Thanks for the gift certificates for the teens and the checks to help the Armed Services YMCA provide gifts for the families. We are truly fortunate to live in this phenomenal community. If you missed this joyful opportunity, you could leave your toys, gift cards, or checks at the Clubhouse Front Desk, and we will load them up on the Woodchuck sleigh. As we write this Woodchuck article from our cozy burrow, the visiting Marines have delivered the 100s of toys so generously donated by our OHCC friends. This will add to the holiday joy for the Kids of Camp Pendleton. What an honor to be a part of this celebration! From all the Woodchucks, Have a blessed holiday, Christmas, Hanukkah. Thank you for helping us spread the cheer to "Those Who So Bravely Serve Us."
