Village Vets
We had a great Veterans Day celebration on Nov. 11 at the Clubhouse. There was a
fantastic crowd attending the event this year, conducted by Donna Russell. The theme for
the event was Women in the Military. The event was hosted by the Village Vets Club, the
OHCC Clubhouse, with military and musical groups joining us. Our guest speaker was
retired Air Force Colonel Vincent Lostetter Jr. a former B-1 Bomber Pilot and currently Air
Force JROTC Sr. Aerospace Science Instructor at Vista High School.
The plans for our Dec. 10 Village Vets Holiday Party have come together. We will have a
grand dinner planned in Abravanel Hall, catered by the Village Kitchen & Pie Shoppe from
Carlsbad. The Arrowhead Band will be entertaining, for your listening and dancing pleasure.
We will also be inviting and sponsoring military personnel and guests to be at each table as
in the past. We hope to have our members help sponsor a military member or two. In past
years, the Vets holiday parties have been loved by our members as one of the highlights of
the holiday season. If you haven't yet sent your checks, they need to be in by Dec. 2 at the
latest, at the Clubhouse front desk; $40 for Village Vet members and $45 for guests.
On Nov. 19, the Woodchucks Annual Toy drive for the enlisted Marine and Navy kids
at Camp Pendleton took place in the OHCC overflow parking lot. Marines from Camp
Pendleton were there to collect the toys. It was a great success as always. Members of the
Village Vets were there to help host the occasion.
Please don't forget to join the Village Vets Club on Do Dues Day in January. You don't have
to be a Vet to support our activities throughout the year. Our annual dues are $10, and we
will be glad to have you with us.
