| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2022 | 13 Sun Lakes Committee Reports In the spring of 2022, the Sun Lakes Championship Course underwent renovation of the greenside sand traps. This was made possible by the action of the Master Board and hard work by Mark Burchfield and our maintenance crew. Their considerable participation in this work produced budget savings that made this project possible. Thanks to the golfers for their patience and understanding during the necessary period of hole closures. It has been nice to hear from many of you in hindsight regarding how nice the renovation turned out. This improvement seen around the green complexes provided an overall updated contemporary appearance we can enjoy for years to come. In 2023, repair/replacement funding is earmarked in the Reserves for renovation of the Championship Course fairway sand traps. The GAC has recommended to the Master Board to approve the continuation of this next phase of work. The architectural plans and layout for this project were completed at the same time as the greenside sand traps. The renovation planned for the fairway bunkers will utilize the same liner system and continue the same level of updating and contouring seen with the greenside bunkers. During the fairway sand trap work, plans are to keep all 18 holes open to play, although tees may be moved into the middle of the fairways on select holes from time to time. Golf Advisory Safety Advisory Unfortunately we had another break-in at the RV Lot. The main gate locks and 12 vehicles had their locks cut with bolt cutters, and were done by a theft ring of one to two on unlicensed dirt bikes. They also had tried to hot wire other motorcycles and quads on the lot without success. The police and Securitas saw them come back at 7 am but then they headed back out to Highland Springs Road after seeing the police. Fortunately they didn't get any property. It appears the coyotes and or bobcats are back as there have been three small animals killed on the North Side either when walking their pets or on their patios. Call Animal Control if you see them. We meet with Master Board member Lori Hazelton, Assistant General Manager Jason Ewals, and Recreation Director Kara Lukasik to keep updated about upcoming events in Sun Lakes. This month, we mourn the loss of Committee member Michael Collins, whose wit and intelligence added a spark to our monthly meetings. Condolences go out to his widow, Barbara, and the Collins family.
