22 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2022 THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS You have spent a wonderful day at the wineries and when you crest the hill, you see smoke billowing from behind the Sun Lakes community. When you pull into the gate at Four Seasons, you see pickup trucks with Cal Fire emblems on them. Your worst fears are about to be realized. You pull up into your driveway and you notice a commotion around your neighbor's garage. When you get out of your car, your neighbor informs you that your community is under mandatory evacuation orders. Luckily you are a prepper. Now is the time that you will put it to the test. You head into the corner of your dining room to pick up your Go Bag. You go down the hall and pull a couple of spare blankets and pillows. Going past your office you remember to check on your important paperwork. You pull the dog crates out of storage and place your pooches in them. You double check your important papers to be sure that the dogs' shot records are among them. Besides bank account records, real estate deeds, driver's licenses, you may also need auto registrations and prescriptions. You grab a winter coat and head for the door. You are thankful that you have practiced this all before. Where was it that you could go? You called your friends ahead and they are ready for you and your fur babies. You learned that evacuation centers are good for swinging singles but very few allow anything but a service dog inside. A night sleeping in the parking lot would raise holy heck with your back. So, you are really glad that you made these arrangements some time back. Instead of three days of punishment, it could actually be an adventure. So do not be in such a rush that you forget your hairbrush, and while you are at it, do not forget your teeth. A spare toothbrush and some toothpaste — you do not have a lot of time to waste. Take a look at your utilities before you go. Your lights and gas appliances are turned off, the water isn't leaking, and the holiday lights have been disconnected. Your solar and hardwired lights should be okay. Now turn off your timers and be on your way. The EPC Committee meets on the third Tuesday of the month in the RCN Conference Room at 10 am. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, Dec. 20. ~ Michael A. Mendoza, srmendoza@verizon.net Emergency Preparedness Committee The Canine Corral celebrated its first "Yappy Hour" in November, and what a celebration it was! The Canine Corral Committee welcomed members and non-members alike for a glass of wine, some snacks, and loads of conversation about our dogs. There were several huge baskets filled with wonderful doggie goodies that were raffled off. Toasts of thanks were made to the sponsors of the Corral, several of whom were in attendance for the festivities. The Corral would not have become a reality without the support of our sponsors, as the entire Corral is self-funded. Applications for membership were available as well as forms for the Honor Plaques. The Honor Plaques are wonderful tributes to pets, people, or just for fun. They can be seen along the Corral fencing facing Breckenridge as well as on the benches within the Corral. The donation of an Honor Plaque not only helps with the regular maintenance of the Corral, but it is also an opportunity for individuals to memorialize a pet or person who has passed over the Rainbow Bridge, or if you just want to express joy or gratitude. Organized play times were discussed and that has already proven to be a success. There are a nice number of people and dogs meeting in the mornings on Saturday and Sunday. We plan on expanding this to some early evening hours as well. Any suggestions can be sent to us at fourseasonscaninecorral@gmail.com. Please join our Facebook Group, Four Seasons Canine Corral (https://www.facebook.com/ groups/638146317048512), and post pictures of your dogs enjoying their time in the Corral. We thank everyone on the Canine Corral Committee for helping make this "Yappy Hour" a reality and look forward to more in the future. ~ Teri DiMarino, teridimarino@gmail.com Canine Corral Council The Canine Corral Committee
