FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2022 9 BEAUMONT SUMMIT STATION As reported in October's Breeze, the Beaumont City Council held a public meeting on Oct. 18. It was attended by approximately 150 people who appeared to be nearly evenly split between residents of Beaumont and representatives of various construction unions and the developers. The construction unions wore orange shirts and orange vests, and were seated in the city council chamber in front of the members of the city council. Beaumont residents were in another room at city hall watching the meeting on a large screen TV out of sight of the council members. During the meeting, the developer and his representatives presented the case for the approval of The Summit Station by amending the General Plan from Single Family Residential to Industrial, General Commercial, and Open Space. The consideration of the Draft Environmental Impact Report was also part of the city council member review. Members of a number of construction unions encouraged the city council members to approve The Summit Station Project because it would provide good-paying jobs for the union members and would enable them to work closer to home. The residents of Beaumont spoke about traffic congestion, air pollution, quality of life, and decrease to property values. The city council listened to all parties attentively, and in the end, they voted 4-0 against approving The Summit Station Industrial Project. It should be noted that the Beaumont Planning Commission voted 4-1 against recommending the project approval. Thank you to the city council members who voted against approving The Summit Station Project and the Beaumont Planning Commission who voted against recommending the project to the city council for approval. Also, thank you to all the Beaumont residents who took the time to voice their disapproval of The Summit Station Project by making telephone calls, sending emails and texts, and attending the public meetings. We need to continue working together to monitor the development plans for the City of Beaumont and speak out on those projects or issues we do not believe would be good for our city. BANNING WAREHOUSE The Banning Warehouse legal issues are continuing with the Pass Action Group (PAG) brief due to Judge Reimer on Dec. 9, 2022. On Feb. 7, 2023, the City of Banning and Creation Equity brief is due to Judge Reimer. These are the important dates pending right now. After the submission of the briefs and responses from the parties involved, Judge Reimer will schedule a hearing date, possibly in April or May of 2023. As you can see, the legal filings and responses take a lot of preparation and time for PAG's legal committee and their attorneys. Fundraising is continuing for the legal fees and other necessary expenses. The Pass Action Group (PAG) is up to date with all bills at this time and is fundraising for future legal expenses. If you would like to donate to this effort to reverse the approval of the Banning Point Warehouse, you can send checks to the Pass Action Group at 4832 Crenshaw Circle in Banning, California 92220. Online donations can be made at www. givebutter.com/passactiongroupbanning. The Pass Action Group's Board of Directors thank all who have supported and continue to support the efforts to overturn the warehouse approval.
