Near or Far
World traveler and avid bicyclist 84-year-old Kirk
Howard combined his two avocations by completing the
world renown "2022 Great Vic Bike Ride" traversing 522
kilometers (340 miles) through Victoria, Australia. This
part of Australia encompasses mountains, national parks,
wineries and surfing beaches. Melbourne is the state capital.
This nine-day event encompassed all these pleasantries.
The seven ride days averaged 75 kilometers (46. 6 miles)
per day. The overall elevation gain was 4,700 meters (2.9
miles). The average temperature during the event was 65
degrees and it did rain on occasion. The day's ride is just
part of the daily workout. Each participant must pack his
gear in the morning, eat a hearty meal and prepare bike for
the day. At the end of the day's ride, he must do the same in
reverse. This is certainly a worthy challenge and those who
know Kirk realize he's up to it.
My husband, Bob Radabaugh, and I recently traveled to Canyon Lake, Texas
for a family reunion. Here I am holding November's Life in Solera magazine at
the VRBO lake house. We had a great time! Submitted by Rae Lyon
