2023! Another new year. While many
make their own New Year's resolutions,
we have one for you: Take a few moments
to review the most recent copy of the
Architectural Standards and Guidelines.
Are you familiar with changes that were
added during 2022? Do you know which
home improvements need an approved
application before work begins and
which projects do not? Knowing the
difference can help you with your home
improvements.
As part of your new year, take a walk
around your house. When was the last
time your house was painted? If it has
been over 10 or 11 years, it may need to be painted in 2023. When
was the last time you painted your back wrought iron fence?
Both the front and backside may need a coat of fresh paint. The
recommendation is every two years to keep rust from developing,
especially on the bottom, as it is most susceptible to water damage.
Please remember, if your neighbor makes a questionable home
improvement, that does not mean it is
acceptable. Violations for unapproved
work are given. The error often takes
longer to rectify than you might think, but
it will be taken care of. Also, work done
prior to application approval may result in
a monetary fine.
While many homeowners understand
the purpose of the Architectural
Committee, some do not. We are just
following the guidelines approved by
our Board. When you bought a home in
an Association, you were looking for a
community of well-kept homes. Non-
working cars are not acceptable except in
your garage; trash cans are to be put out of sight after trash day,
fences should not be falling down, and homes should have a good
coat of paint.
There are so many wonderful benefits to living in The Colony.
Thank you to those of you who follow the guidelines of our
community and keep it looking so well.
