| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JANUARY 2023 | 7 On behalf of the Landscape Committee, a very Happy New Year and we wish you the best for 2023. Here's a recap for 2022 and a look at 2023: We began 2022 with increasing our meetings from once to twice a month. This allowed our committee to begin addressing long term issues and preparing for projects that will look at ways to reduce potable water usage (which is primarily in the East Legends area) and identifying and prioritizing projects to address plants and trees that are coming to the end of their life span. By the end of 2022, we will have selected several projects and will begin the process of obtaining proposals and working with the Board to prioritize projects that address reducing water and/or refresh and re-landscape areas that have emergent end-of-life plant issues. We welcomed our Liaison Pam Hayter from the Facilities Committee. This vital connection has had an impact on several joint Facilities/Landscaping issues. Pam has been very effective in sharing future projects that the Facilities Committee are planning on, and how Landscape can coordinate, complement and provide feedback to developing projects for our community. We thank Pam for her time and commitment! Artistic Maintenance has been our contracted Landscape provider for many years. As a resident, you see their staff and grounds crew mowing, planting and take care of our plants and trees. Other activities that you may not see are emergency services, such as our recent windstorm in November, that downed several trees. Artistic responded immediately to remove the trees. Other activities include (and are not limited to) addressing the constant gopher issues, monitoring and fixing irrigation problems, engaging homeowners, and passing along suggested solutions about other HOAs with landscaping problems similar to our own. Thank you, Maria Donti! Her support is vital to our mission of maintaining our beautiful landscape. Finally, we had two longtime members retire from the committee and welcomed four new members. We thank our longtime members for their many years of service to keep our community beautiful. We thank our new members who have brought their new ideas, perspectives, commitment and energy in continuing the mission of the Landscape Committee. Landscape Committee Trees, their beauty and their calming effect, help make Four Seasons the community we enjoy. Originally, every yard in the community had a tree. Trees contribute to the oxygen we breathe and remove carbon dioxide in the air. Flowers blooming from the trees provide food for the bees and birds. Trees provide SHADE. Currently, our common area trees are being trimmed. The trees in your individual yards may also need trimming. When planning to trim, it is best to start with a tree trimming expert, the arborist. While many gardeners do tree trimming, we note that the finished product sometimes shows a lack of expertise. If you are looking at removing a tree, we ask you to review the guidelines established for tree removal (ARC application is required): 1. Safety - The tree poses a safety or potential safety issue. 2. Hazard - The tree is a hazard or a potential hazard to pedestrian or vehicle traffic. 3. Structure - The tree is damaging a structure or is a potential threat to do structural damage. 4. Tree Health - The tree health is in question and all attempts to resolve the health issue have failed. Most of the time, removal of a tree requires the planting of a replacement tree. Maria Donti (Lodge office) maintains a listing of trees approved and appropriate for our extreme climate. This listing is always being updated as we learn more about a tree. The objective of the listing is to give the homeowner the best information on the tree chosen for successful planting and growth in their yard. Have a good New Year… Plant a tree… Architectural Review Committee
