| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JANUARY 2023 | 11 Library Committee The Library Committee wishes Four Seasons a healthy, happy, and peaceful 2023. It seems impossible to me that it is 2023. I've been here about 18 years and have seen so many changes. The biggest change for me has been our library. It is no longer a game room, meeting room, and sales room. It is an ACTUAL library! Have you been to the library recently? I just shelved about 12 brand new books donated by residents. We wouldn't have a library without you. All books, magazines and puzzles are donated by our home owners. We appreciate you! You buy the new blockbuster book, read it, and then donate it. Thank you. We have a "suggestion" box on the first table when you enter the library. Every suggestion is read and discussed at meetings. Quite often it is a request to get a certain book. We don't purchase the books, thank heavens. I ask enough of the committee (lol). We had the complaint about the puzzles looking tacky… I think you will agree it looks better with the changes we made. A recent suggestion was to set up a table with a puzzle and everyone could work it. A great idea BUT we truly don't have the room. We have done a fantastic job using every inch of space but we are at our limit. Bring those hardbound fiction books dated 2013-2023 up. The paperbacks are presently 2019-2023. Our non-fiction does not have a "date by" nor do our LARGE PRINT books. The magazines can present a problem as it can be difficult to find the date but only the last three months are displayed. Out of date books are donated to different charities or, our favorite Hemet library, but do you have a need for donations? Perhaps a family member in a care facility? Do they have a library? We have donated to facilities such as those. Let me know. I want to recognize the hard working committee, thank you, Char Weakley for being my co-chair for about 14 years, Sue Corum for being a GREAT secretary, Betty Crase for serving as 1st co-chair, Blair Becker for his humor and height, Betty Barr as our scheduler, Julie Kreun, Bernadette Koretke, Shirley Etemadfar our puzzle lady, Carolynn Irvine, Jack Anderson, Christine Cole Weaver, and our Hemet library worker Lis Woelke. Our soon to be Chairperson, Betty Crase, has a new hip and is still busy doing all the right "things." We send her our wishes for a speedy recovery! Looking back at 2022, we experienced the Fairview Fire and a SCE PSPS power outage for the second year in a row on Thanksgiving Day due to high winds. Nearby in Menifee, there was a hazardous material spill that closed Scott Road for a day. These are the kinds of situations that your EPC and CERT prepare for to help our residents. If you have medical equipment that is dependent on power, you should register at fscert.org/pwrdependant. If you would like to help, check out fscert.org for more information. Our Mission: The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program is designed to increase individual and community preparedness and self-reliance in the event of man-made or natural disasters. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has officially recognized CERT as an important part of a community's disaster preparedness readiness. Four Seasons CERT continues to need your participation. Become a Street Captain or CERT Auxiliary. Step up. Be a part of the best CERT in the valley, come make a difference.
