| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JANUARY 2023 | 15 Wishing you all continued blessings throughout this holiday season, with a safe and prosperous New Year. Wrapping up a great year of gardening-related travel, Late Bloomers celebrated the holiday season in grand style, beginning with a long-awaited excursion to Kimberly Crest House and Gardens in Redlands on Dec. 6. The estate sits on 6.25 acres and was designed by Mrs. Cornelia Hill as a French chateau-style Victorian Mansion in 1897. It is surrounded by orange groves, lily ponds, and terraced Italian Renaissance-styled gardens. The privilege to tour this well-preserved example of the Victorian era in California was truly a step back in time. Furnishings are original to the property, and as a historical landmark, is now owned and operated by Kimberly- Shirk Association, a 501-C3 Non-Profit organization on behalf of the people of Redlands. On Dec. 16 we headed back to the Lavender Fields in Cherry Valley for their annual Festival of Lights. Visiting this wonderful, working Lavender Farm in June, we learned all about the plant species, lavender infusion of oils, botanicals, and culinary uses. To experience these same fields at night, lit by millions of tiny twinkling lights was magical, as if being in a life size Snow Globe. Our first meeting of the New Year will be Jan. 9 at 1 pm, where we will be back in the Arts & Crafts Room designing and embellishing personalized name tags. This creative project was so much fun when we first formed our Club in 2019 that our excited new members "demanded" we repeat it! If you're curious about who we are, and what we do, this workshop is for you. As we decorate, we will be discussing our 2023 plans, trips and schedules for Master Gardener seminars. Sharing gardening tips, traveling together, learning from each other, and cultivating forever friendships are the blooms growing in our gardens. Late Bloomers meets every second Monday of the month at 1 pm, usually followed by an excursion planned later in the month. All residents are welcome to attend meetings and trips.
