| OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2023 | 15 Village Squares Happy New Year! We are starting off the year with our first Wednesday dance on Jan. 11 at 6:30 pm. Following that, our club will host an open house on Fri., Jan. 20, at 6:30 pm. Refreshments will be served, and we hope at this time to encourage those attending to come to our first free class and see what fun we have, combined with a good workout for mind and body. Our classes will begin Jan. 25. We ended our 2022 year with a wonderful dinner dance. We all enjoyed the planned potluck, with members bringing main dishes, salads, and desserts. It is fun to see how creative our chefs can be and how much fun it is to provide our own very delicious menu. Our caller, Mike Haworth, called a variety of songs, including Christmas and Hannukah numbers, and a great time was had by all. It was especially nice to have Sig Gronich and Charline back with us after his recent health issues. We look forward to their dancing again in January. Line Dancers Save The Date! Tues., Jan. 17, 10:30 – 11:30 am, Fun, Fit and Free! Come and by and give it a try! What do the experts say? A 2003 study in the New England Journal of Medicine by researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine discovered that dance can decidedly improve brain health. The study investigated the effect leisure activities had on the risk of dementia in the elderly. The researchers looked at the effects of 11 different types of physical activity, including cycling, golf, swimming and tennis, but found that the only one of the activities, dance, lowered participants' risk of dementia. According to researchers, dancing involves both mental effort and social interaction and this type of stimulation helped reduce the risk of dementia. It's a lot of fun too! Line dance classes are once a week: Beginner (1): Tues., 10:30 – 11:30 am Improver (2): Mon. , 12:30 – 2 pm Intermediate (3): Thurs., 2:30 – 4 pm (schedule may vary, call Sunny to confirm) Beginner's class is $5 (60 minutes). Other levels are $7 (90 minutes). Dues are $10/year. If you are interested in participating in our activities and are not sure who to reach out to for further information, please call Sunny Griffin (970) 708-0443. Also, please visit our website, https:// ohccvillagelinedan.wixsite.com/linedancing. We had a wonderful year of 10 dance parties in 2022. The last party really rocked the whole Clubhouse. The band, Cool Rush, plus the special touches and the scrumptious dessert by party host, Janet Mrvos, made it a fun night. We are currently planning 10 parties for this new year. Catch us at Do Dues Day on Jan. 14, for a full list of our party dates and to become a member, or renew your membership, for 2023. Doo Wop Members: Save Feb. 18 for our first party. Attendance is by lottery. The chance has been very good for everyone who wanted to attend to do so. If you can't make it to Do Dues Day and would like to learn how to become a member of the Doo Wop & Disco Dance Club, ask the front desk for a Doo Wop Club membership form or print one from "Social Clubs/Doo Wop Club" on the OceanHillsCountryClub.com website. Just complete the information, put it in an envelope marked Doo Wop Club. Enclose a check for $10 per resident for dues for the year. Make checks payable to "OH Doo Wop Club" and drop it by the Clubhouse front desk. We will send you information about the upcoming parties by email. Hope to see you on the dance floor!
