| OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2023 | 19 Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director By Carol Jones Happiest New Year 2023. Have you been meaning to try the Shuttle FOUR TRIPS weekly? A New Year's Resolution could be to call Clubhouse by 3 pm the day before the trip you will try. Don't see a store location you want to visit? Driver John will try to accommodate a destination near regular route. Have you been to Tip Top Market? That's close to Carlsbad Costco. Ask John and he will get you there. Check the Shuttle schedule on rack by front desk in Clubhouse. Happy New Year saving gas and driving stress by using OHCC SHUTTLE in 2023. The November special trip to San Diego Safari Park was canceled due to lack of sign ups. Watch for updates on special trips planned in Happy New Year 2023. Let's Go Places In 2023! Welcome in new year 2023! We hope the holidays were memorable and everyone recovers from their celebrations. With the start of the new year, brings a new outlook. With this renewal comes opportunities, memories, confidence, and a fresh start. We hit the ground running with Do Dues Day on the 14th of January. This year, we know of new clubs starting, elections have been held and new officers are taking their seats, bringing new ideas and creativity. A list of the current dues for each club is available at the Clubhouse or online. Please remember the Front Desk is the "mailbox" for all submissions including club dues, waivers to use the Fitness Center and Transportation Services. The Recreation Department is planning to schedule four trips to popular places in San Diego County. The trip in November was canceled due to the limited number of sign-ups. The Lost and Found is located in the office area. Wet items such as bathing suits and towels are kept in the Locker Rooms. There is an abundance of sunglasses, single golf clubs, and articles of clothing. Insulated water bottles seem to be left in all the recreational areas. The high price to replace them is of concern, but for hygienic reasons we do limit the time they are kept. Please label items, adhering address labels is helpful, if items are found and turned in. Golf classes for men and women golfers, of all levels, are starting up on Fridays with Coach Dori. More info is in Recreation Happenings and a flyer is in the information racks. Annual 2023 bag tags are yellow this year, no charge, and they must be fixed to golf bags and visible when on the Golf Course. Phone directories are expected to be delivered to the Clubhouse in January. All residents can pick them up at the Front Desk, one directory per household. Additional directories can be purchased. With much of the reservation process complete, the confirmations have been emailed: HOA functions, to all clubs and interest groups. Private room rentals are being taken for the coming year. One resident keeps asking to make their private room rental reservation for their 90th Birthday Party with family and friends. That would be of concern, with securing a date, where those family members could make travel plans to celebrate the grand occasion. Something of note: A person between 80 and 89 is called an octogenarian. A person between 90 and 99 is called a nonagenarian. A person between 100 and 109 is called a centenarian. A person 110 years old or older is called a supercentenarian. This Recreation Director learns something new every day! On Dec. 3, NuBees generously donated a trunk full of pet food (above) for pets of under-served people using Brother Benno's Foundation. The Recreation Staff welcomes a new part- time hire to the Front Desk reception, Tamra Warner. Tamra is a retired teacher, loves gardening, dancing, and spending time with her two grandchildren. Please give Tamra a warm welcome to OHCC. Cheers to health, happiness, and prosperity in 2023! We hope all of you enjoying the Clubhouse and meeting new friends. "Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you can." ~ Danny Kaye DO DUES DAY Sat., Jan. 14: 10 am-1 pm - Come see what OHCC has to offer when it comes to Clubs and Social Groups for 2023.
