| OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2023 | 11 Another fresh new year is here. Another year to live, To banish worry, doubt and fear To Love, Laugh and Give. This bright new year is given me To live each day with zest. To daily grow and try to be My highest and my best. I have the opportunity once more to right some wrongs. To pray for peace, To plant a tree, And sing more joyful songs. As the chapter closes on another year, the prospect of starting anew settles upon us like a blanket of fresh snow. In January anything feels possible. It is the month that is forever the optimist, the bridge between the past and the future. January was named for the Roman god Janus, known as the protector of gates and doorways. Janus is depicted with two faces, one looking into the past, the other with the ability to see into the future. January was not always a part of our calendar. In the beginning there were only 10 months, and January and September were considered the dead times not worthy of being named. Julius Caesar changed all that when he added them to the calendar along with an extra day for January with 31 days. No wonder then, that we here at OHCC celebrate Do Dues Day when people from all over the village can come and sign up for new beginnings, new clubs and new activities. All 39 organized clubs will be represented. There you can walk around, meet people, ask questions and learn about what they have to offer you. It is a wonderful day of excitement and fun. Mark your calendar for Jan. 14 from 10 am to 2 pm in Abravanel Hall and surrounding Clubhouse rooms. Don't forget to wander by our library, where the doors are always open and smiling faces await you. Our library furnishes a selection of new hard cover books that are ordered monthly. You can reserve a book ahead of time or browse the open shelves and take a book home at your convenience. The Library Association offers various programs during the year. Although COVID halted many of these activities, we are all looking forward to 2023 when many of the programs will hopefully return: Local writers presenting fireside talks about their novels, holiday programs to entertain our grandchildren, and special presentations by our local actors and reader theatre groups. All of this for only $15 a family when you sign up at Do Dues Day or bring a check to the Clubhouse front desk at any time. Enjoy your library for the entire 2023 calendar year. ~ Happy New Year, Sally Benton Library Association JANUARY BOOK BUYS The Choice ....................................................................Nora Roberts Demon Copperhead ............................................
