30 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2023 | Happy New Year OHCC! The Travel Club Board is very excited about the following trips and events that are planned for this year! Jan. 9 - PROGRAM: We are kicking off 2023 with a special night in Abravanel Hall. For Travel Club members only (2022 and new/ renewing members for 2023), we will have an expanded Social Hour with refreshments (mini-sandwiches, chips, desserts, etc.). A presentation will follow by Joe Ashby and Dee Wardell highlighting their trip to Turkey. To attend, you need to send an email to Lynn Opelka (sislynn6510 @gmail.com). Jan. 17 - TRIP: We start our day at L.A.'s historic Farmers Market for shopping and lunch. Then we'll explore over a century of Hollywood history during our Paramount Pictures Studio Tour. A tour guide will lead us on a behind-the-scenes look at the longest operating and only remaining major studio in Hollywood. We'll enjoy a two-hour private tour on a cart; a sound stage visit (pending availability); and a visit to the prop warehouse. This trip is SOLD OUT. To be put on our Wait list, see details below. March 23 – TRIP: Join us for our trip with a guide to visit sights around San Diego, including stops at the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial and Cross, the incredible San Diego Central Library and the amazing, colorful murals at Barrio Logan! Lunch is also included. Aug. 1 – TRIP: We are off to see the fabulous Pageant of The Masters! Presented in an outdoor amphitheater with an orchestra, live narration and intricate sets, this show presents "living pictures" recreating classical and contemporary works of art, with real people posing to look exactly like their counterparts in the original pieces. The theme is "Art Colony: In the Company of Artists." Complete information about each of our trips is available in the Clubhouse. To sign up for a trip (as well as the wait list), please leave a check, with proof of vaccination attached, made out to the OH Travel Club and put it in the Travel Club Envelope at the Clubhouse Front Desk. Add $5 if you are not a member of the Travel Club. We certainly hope you will come and join us on one of our trips or at one of our events! ~ Your Travel Club Board: Callie Dean, Donna Wessel-Graham, Lynn Opelka, Amy Blount, and Judy Buoniconti Travel Club Woodchucks Wishing everyone a happy and healthy new year! The Woodchucks give our heartfelt thanks to all who assisted with our annual Camp Pendleton Toy Drive. This year's campaign was another rousing success thanks to the incredible participation from our community. In addition to donations of many new toys and bicycles, we also received an astounding amount of gift cards and checks showing once again the generous community in which we live. Here is the breakdown financially: Gift Cards: $1,155 Checks to the YMCA: $6,280 Checks to Woodchucks: $4,341 Total: $11,776 Woodchucks' members (AKA Santa's Elves) again produced an amazing variety of hand-built toys for the children of the Camp Pendleton Marines. With the able assistance from members of the Sewing Club, Garden Club, Veterans Club and the Chorale, new toys and donations from our generous neighbors were collected and distributed to the Camp Pendleton YMCA. The 'Drive-Thru" at the Overflow lot would not have run as smoothly as it did without the volunteer efforts of all the participating clubs mentioned above.
