| OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2023 | 35 Hello and Happy New Year to our friends in OHCC! The holidays are behind us, lights and trees are coming down, wrong sized gifts have been returned, and now it's time for making those New Year's resolutions! Most of us in Papercrafting are promising ourselves to: make and send more cards, get our craft room organized, learn more card-making techniques and, last but not least, find a way to spend less but expand our supply inventory. Hmmmm, yes that's always the tough one! One of the most anticipated annual events here in Ocean Hills is the Do Dues Day. That's the day when each member of each club renews their membership and when each club does their best to recruit new members into their ranks. And it's happening this month. Abravanel Hall is turned into a grand bazaar where club booths abound, letting everyone know all about the fun things their club can offer OHCC's residents. You know, Ocean Hills has 37 clubs so there's no shortage of opportunities for people to seek out new hobbies, new adventures and new friends. Hopefully this month's magazine will be filled with information from each club, especially for those who are new to our community or who have been hesitant to reactivate their memberships due to the pandemic. So, here's my pitch for Papercrafting! I joined this club in January of 2020. (Right before COVID hit. What a challenge.) And even with all the roadblocks to social gatherings that went hand in hand with lockdown, it turned out to be an amazing year for me and others in Papercrafting. Thanks to open air instruction and Zoom, I learned so much, met the nicest people and enjoyed my new hobby to the fullest. Now, I'm definitely hooked! I don't think I enjoyed myself that much since my four grandchildren started arriving. You don't need a degree or special talent, (though there are many accomplished and talented Papercrafting members). But our club takes new members under its wing and guides them through papercrafting basics for six months. And before you know it, you are creating works of art that amaze your friends and family. Don't miss talking to our representatives on Do Dues Day. Papercrafting may be your next favorite thing. To our members celebrating birthdays this month, we wish you the happiest of birthdays, with your loved ones by your side, or at least calling you on Facetime. Here's to the garnet birthstone gals: Margaret Burgess, and Kathy Moskowitz. If you're thinking of joining Papercrafting this year, go on YouTube and take a peek at three of my favorite Papercrafters: Gina K Designs 5-minute Cards, Jennifer McGuire INK and Lisa Curcio Studio with Stampin' up. There are hundreds of videos with these ladies making gorgeous cards and you will be amazed.
