6 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2023 | Happy New Year! Every year I try to review what I accomplished during the year. Some years the list is longer than others, usually because the accomplishment has been carried over from the previous year or in some cases the past several years. This year, I am publishing my list of SERT related things I personally hope to achieve in 2023. • Review and update my medical history on my Vial of Life form • Test my smoke and carbon monoxide detectors • Install a new Emergency Management System (actually, I have already started so this is an ongoing upgrade) • Notify my insurance carrier of the new EMS (maybe I can get a discount) • Rotate my emergency supplies (out with the old and in with the new) • Check my First Aid Kits and replace items that were used in 2022 • Review my important papers, are they all in one place and easily accessible to grab and go in an emergency • Review my emergency contacts, has information changed (check with my neighbors too, in case their information has changed) • Review my house exit plan in case of a fire • Check my fire extinguishers (still fully charged and give them a good shake to keep the chemicals inside from clumping up) • Look around the house to see if items need to be moved or removed to reduce trip and fall hazards • Have fun and enjoy retirement! (OK, this really is not a SERT thing, but it is important) The SERT Club's membership goal was 400 members and we ended 2022 with 391members, with 20 being Lifetime members. For 2023, I am increasing our goal to 450 members. We hope everyone will renew your membership or upgrade and become a Lifetime member. Some members sadly, are no longer with us, so I am asking SERT members to encourage new residents to join SERT. In 2023, SERT will continue to work to achieve a safer OHCC experience. Several ideas have been submitted that, if implemented, will require the approval of the Master Board of Directors. Some will not cost anything, just time and effort to put policies in place. Others may require an investment that must be cost justified for proper consideration. These are some of the items that are being discussed: • Purchase and install a dedicated two-way radio tower for emergency use by SERT • Publish an emergency exit route map in case of an evacuation order is issued • Purchase and install an emergency warning system like the Tsunami siren and loudspeaker system used in the beach communities (this would be tied into the government agencies) • Purchase a mobile trailer and stock it with emergency equipment and first aid supplies If you have ideas, please share them by sending an email to OHCCSERT@gmail.com Thank you all for supporting SERT. Please stay safe and healthy in 2023! SERT GOALS Tom Porter, President SAVE THE DATE FOR OUR 4TH ANNUAL OHCC DRIVEWAY SALE SAT., APRIL 29 Downsizing? Moving? Just need to clean out your closet?
