24 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2023 January Makes Me Shiver Protests against drag shows in North Carolina resulted in power outages to over 40 thousand homes. Look out folks, we do not know the day or the hour. What can you do without power? There are no lights, heating, television or internet. Not all gas stations have backup generators to allow us to pump. There will be no stoplights on the way to the dump. Where are Sheriff Taylor and Miss Helen Crump? From domestic terrorists to burn scar mud slides, we must be prepared to get it from any side. There are Mauna Loa lava flows and High Sierra record-level snows. It will be into the ocean or down the hill. Will we have the skill and the patience to just sit still? Instead of a Christmas story from old we wait for new tales to unfold. Running in circles will do you no good. Here is hoping that you have plenty of propane and wood. Shutting down electricity will shut down the pumps that carry fresh water to you and sewage away. Without electricity you will be forced to depend on your emergency water storage for drinking and hygiene. Hot or cold the sun may shine and a solar panel or two would charge your battery just fine. Heat from a backup battery will help keep you warm and dry. The experts hope for help in three days but we should plan for seven. A portable potty or composting toilet will help get you through. Some water from a water heater, bath tub or pool or sink may be all you need to keep you clean and up to speed. If all of this work seems like too much to do, you can pack up your family and furry friends and travel out of state. This is a lot to think about before it is too late. Cal Fire is hoping in this season of wind that we do not have any mega fires all over again. Time marches on and we should take time to fix things before thinking about vacation. The Four Seasons Beaumont Emergency Preparedness Committee meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 10 am in the RCN Conference Room. Our next meeting is Jan. 17, 2023. ~ Michael A. Mendoza, srmendoza@verizon.net Emergency Preparedness Committee Welcome to the cold, windy, and hopefully, wet January! Speaking of wet, when we have a significant day of rain, as we did in early November, please allow a day or two, depending on the amount of rain, before you return to the Corral to allow the decomposed granite (DG) to dry out. When the dogs are running around the wet surface, or you are walking on it, deep impressions in the DG are created which may require some repair work. The wet, soggy DG can also be harmful to your dog's paws. As mentioned in the December Breeze, we had a very successful "Yappy Hour" in The Lodge on Nov. 3 without our dogs. We are going to plan another one at the Corral sometime in the Spring so we can let our dogs be part of the fun as well. Stay tuned for further information regarding this event. If you have not already done so, and you and your dog(s) are currently members of the Canine Corral, please consider joining our Canine Corral Facebook Group, Four Seasons Canine Corral (https:// www.facebook.com/groups/638146317048512) to share pictures of your dogs in the Corral or to set up play dates. We currently have three days on which groups are meeting at the Corral: Saturdays, 9 am, Sundays, 9 am, and Wednesdays, 3 pm. Please join us on one of those days or set up alternative play dates with other members. The Canine Corral Council is looking for additional members to join the Council. If you are currently a member of the Corral, please consider coming to our meetings which are held on the first Thursday of each month at 10 am in the RCN Conference Room. It would be great to have additional members who could provide a new and different perspective to our group. All members are welcome to join. We currently have a roster which contains emails and phone contact information for each member of the Corral. We would like each member to have this information to be able to set up play dates with each other. It is much more fun for both us and our dogs if we are not alone at the Corral. However, if you do not want your information shared with other members, please contact Mykal Thuney at our management office as soon as possible so we can remove your information before it is provided to all members. Mykal's email address is mykal.thuney@fsresidential.com or stop in at the office in the RCN to speak with him. ~ Lynn Jahnke, lynnj92223@gmail. com Canine Corral Council
