12 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2023 | Safety Advisory I would like to correct one of my recent articles about loose dogs. It turns out if Securitas finds a loose dog without a dog tag they can look at a list of names posted at the main gate which gives names available who will help track down the owners. Securitas can read chips also. Repeat offenders can be fined as well. In late October, we had a break-in at a residence off Rivera. They broke into a bedroom window when the owners were out of town. They did have ADT security and cameras so Banning PD and Securitas got a lot of evidence. The burglars were looking mainly for valuables. Please let your neighbors know when you will be going out of town. We had another vehicle accident on Country Club Dr. between St. Andrews and Rivera. A resident accidentally ran over the center medium and stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brakes causing the vehicle to hit a palm tree and flip the cart over. Banning PD said the resident was driving with two leg casts. We need to slow down and drive responsibly. ~ Bill Bess, (951) 769-8022 The Restaurant & Lounge Advisory Committee's focus is to inform members, as well as to research and explore ways of increasing revenue to our own Restaurant & Lounge. Having on-site dining eliminates the need to fight the ever-increasing traffic or leave the refuge of our community for a fine dining experience or to enjoy cocktails, entertainment, and a light bite with friends and family. It is our highest hope that more members will frequent and enjoy these amenities. If we don't use it, we could lose it. What would our choices be? Lots of fast food in Beaumont, miles to go with traffic to dine in Palm Springs or Redlands. Not to mention, our property values — having these wonderful amenities in addition to our two golf courses are some of the reasons prospective homeowners are attracted to Sun Lakes instead of the newer choices in the area. We are lead by Committee Chairwoman Victoria Simanton, who is forward-thinking and has years of hospitality, catering, food and beverage industry experience and extensive troubleshooting expertise. She has worked tirelessly and has assembled a highly-experienced committee to work side by side with SLCC management in order to accomplish established goals. Throughout 2022, the committee has given advice to the Board and is proud of the little we've been able to accomplish. Committee Members generously work and help at events including Cinco De Mayo, New Menu Launch, Oktoberfest, Greek Night, Activities Day, the popular Monday Night Football & Half Time Trivia. They also volunteered help with tedious work in order to save expenses and expedite the workload of our POS system. Our help: Denied. Our survey program: 1. Add dessert items $5 or less. 2. New Years traditions unique to countries: It's the Chinese year of the Rabbit, which represents kindness, courage, and strength. Red décor and clothing symbolizes health, wealth, and prosperity. Brazilians dress in white to bring luck, prosperity, and ward off evil. Colombians carry empty suitcases around the block at midnight in hopes of traveling. Danish revelers shatter plates against doors of family and friends to ward off bad spirits. Spaniards eat one grape every toll of the clock at midnight for luck every month. Greeks bake Saint Basils cake with a silver or gold coin inside, brings luck to who finds it. Italians have sausages and lentils to bring luck and fortune. Americans eat beans to symbolize coins for good fortune. As you tear off the last page of 2022's calendar, make resolutions and reservations, and plans to thoroughly enjoy SLCC events. Whatever you decide, whatever your goals are for 2023, your neighbors and friends here in SLCC wish you all good things — good health, friends, food, and fun all year. Until next month, always surround yourself with love, laughter and peace in your hearts. ~ Carole Elliott Restaurant & Lounge Advisory Sun Lakes Committee Reports
