| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2023 | 25 Fiber Artists From dishrags to beautiful scarves and anything else you can think of, it can be created with fabulous yarns. Join us Mondays as we knit, crochet, quilt, cross stitch, and more, on various projects of our own. Seeing what others are working on and creating is half the fun. We meet Mondays in the North Clubhouse at 12:30 pm. The second Monday of each month we share our yarn and supplies, swapping them around, and on the last Monday of each month we share a potluck lunch. We can remind you how to do what you learned as a child at grandmother's knee or start you on a new hobby. Call Carol Willis at (404) 245-6939 or Diane Black at (801) 367-5999. Happy New Year! There are so many talented girls in this group. We meet on the first, third, fifth of each month from 1 to 3 pm (or longer needed). For info, call Jan Hamm at (951) 212-6799 or Vivian Myrdahl at (626) 221-0872. Sun Lakes Quilters Sew What? Club Our holiday dinner party was a roaring success with a lot of hard work from Jan Flammang and helpers, Elaine Perkins and Debbie Brown. Elaine and Debbie jumped in at the last minute to assist Jan, as her other helpers had unexpected emergencies. Thanks gals! Along with the gift exchanges, where gifts were being stolen right and left, we had a decorated hat contest. There are unusual imaginations in our group. The winners of the contest were as follows: Prettiest was created by Robin Westen, one of our newest members; Ugliest Hat was a Russian ushanka, worn by Kathy Ankenman; and Funniest Hat went to Ann Sansoucie. I actually thought Ann's hat was quite pretty! An interesting part of this contest was that pretty much no one knew what category to put their own hat in. As we look ahead to 2023, we anticipate meeting new friends, discovering new methods of crafting, and creating numerous innovative projects. This month, our project day will be on Jan. 16, where we will bring in some of our own personal tools to share with others. A fun learning experience for sure. Gratefully, we will now only be meeting on Mondays. Every Monday of the month, with the exception of the second Monday, we will be gathering together. Something new; our first January meeting will be in the Bus Room on Jan. 2. Going forward, we will always meet in the Bus Room on the first Monday of the month only. All other Monday meetings will be in our regular location, the Multipurpose Room. Our January meetings are Jan. 2, 16, 23, and 30. The meeting time is 1 to 3 pm. We continue to meet for our monthly birthday luncheons in the Atrium at 11 am on the second Thursday of the month. January's birthday lunch will be Jan. 12. Contacts for this group are Elaine Perkins (951) 334-3119 or Sallie Flesher (951) 902- 9768. There is no cost to join, just come in and visit and see what we are doing. It's a very fun group. Paper Crafting All ladies interested in sewing are encouraged to attend our Sew What? Club meetings the first and third Tuesdays in the Arts & Crafts Room from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. If you have questions, please call Gail at (951) 797-3589 and leave your name and number and I'll call you back. Sun Lakes Mudslingers We meet every Tuesday from 3 to 6 pm and Fridays from 9 am to 12 pm in the Arts & Crafts Room. No prior experience is needed. Month-to-month sign up is allowed, so no lengthy commitment. We do have space limitations though. Right now there is room for a few more budding artists. If you ever wanted to play in the mud or learn to use the wheel, now is your chance. The cost is $70 per month and includes all supplies and materials needed. Just bring yourself and have fun. Try out a new hobby with very little expense and no new "stuff " to store. For more info, email Camille Meldrum at camille.meldrum@ gmail.com.
