| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2023 | 41 HAPPY NEW YEAR! I wish each of you a happy and healthy 2023. Each year brings its challenges. I hope your challenges are few and your joys many. Our next meeting and support group will be on Thurs., Jan. 19 at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. There is no guest speaker this month. This will give each of you more time to share and learn. This group is for you the caregiver. Our program is open to all caregivers, no matter who you care for. This is a free program, take advantage of it. Don't forget about our group in the Arts and Craft room. We entertain your loved one while you attend the meeting. Please don't leave him or her home alone. The Arts & Crafts Room is right next door to your meeting room. We have live entertainment, games, exercise and fun. No one is forced to participate. We will do whatever needs to be done to entertain your loved one so you can relax and enjoy the meeting. In November the very talented group Fusion, (Susan Fitzpatrick, Sandra Haines, Nancy Ford and Bruce Dills) entertained our loved ones. Thank you! It was a great morning. If you are thinking of bringing your loved one give us a try. It's a free program and we care about your loved one. PLANNING AHEAD FOR LONG-TERM CARE EXPENSES #4 LONG-TERM CARE INSURANCE Once an individual is diagnosed with Alzheimer's, he or she will likely not qualify for long-term care insurance coverage. However, if long-term care insurance is already in place upon diagnosis, carefully review the policy to find answers to the following questions: Is Alzheimer's covered? Most policies say they cover the disease, but take a closer look to be sure. When can the person with dementia begin to collect benefits? Most policies require a defined level of physical or cognitive impairment. What is the daily benefit and is it adjusted annually for inflation? How long are benefits paid? Is there a maximum lifetime payout? What kind of care will the policy cover? Examples include skilled nursing home, assisted living and licensed home care. How long after diagnosis will the policy begin to pay? This is often called the elimination period. Are there tax implications for receiving this money? We are here to help! Call us if you have any questions. Diane (951) 769-0130, Doug (360) 840-5559 or Anne (951) 845-8700. Caregiver Support Group The Bereavement Support Group meets Sundays in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room from 3 to 4:30 pm. This group is designed to provide emotional support to any resident mourning the death of a spouse, relationship, child, parent, or beloved pet. We gather together as "hearts with ears" in absolute confidentiality in a safe shared place where strangers may become friends. Each of us is unique; our grief cannot be identical to any other, and the way to get to the other side of your grief is to "go through." For more info, call Carol Tasko at (951) 769-8932.
