One of the things that new players to pickleball sometimes struggle with is how to keep score. It is much simpler than it sounds. Here is the proper way to keep score while playing pickleball: Serving is important, because in pickleball only the serving team can earn a point. Think of it like baseball, where only the team at bat can score runs. The team on the field can only get outs, it can't score. In pickleball, the receiving team must make two "outs" before getting a chance to serve and earn points for their team. We play doubles pickleball, so the two folks on one team both get to serve before that team loses its serve. The player in the right-hand court always serves first. They are server #1. If they win a point, they rotate sides of the court, but that person is still server #1. When the receiving team gets an "out," server #1 loses their turn and now it is server #2's turn, whichever side of the court they're on. Three things need to be called out before each serve – your teams' score, the other teams' score, and if you're server #1 or #2. We will explain about beginning the game and where to stand during a serve in a future piece. It truly is a fun game folks. If you're physically active, please consider coming out to see if this great game for active seniors is right for you. We'll give you quick lessons and have you playing the same day. Please wear "court" shoes. You risk injury if you wear jogging or walking shoes. For more information, feel free to contact either Sue Miller at (503) 702-4273, or Sandy Stearn at (951) 797-0991. We play Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday mornings. We are on winter hours, so we begin around 8:30 am. 36 | LIFE IN SOLERA | FEBRUARY 2023 | Happy Valentine's Day. Looking to do something you love?
