From the Desk of Kathy C. Stevens
By Kathy C. Stevens, Secretary
As I sit and write this article for the February edition of The Colony News, I can't help but look back at 2022. What a
year it was. I've learned so much and met so many great people. Even with the challenges we all face in 2023, both in
The Colony and in the world, there is still so much to be grateful for. Sometimes it's hard to see the good when chaos
seems to be everywhere. But every morning I make a choice to try and understand people that are hurting and angry,
and help out where I can.
For 2023, I wish for all of us to find joy even in the little things so that we don't lose hope. For a moment yesterday, I
was discouraged. I bought a loaf of bread and dozen eggs at Barons and paid $11.98. But then I went to see my horse,
who was one big mudball from all the rain, and he was just so happy to see me. At that moment nothing else mattered.
I know that being on the Board will bring many new challenges this year for me. I am a resident first, before
being your representative, and what happens to you, also happens to me. My goal is, and always has been, to seek
an understanding of the issues, provide sound input based on my education and experience, and then be able to
communicate accurate information to residents when asked.
My hope is that all residents feel safe in asking questions. Take the time to meet your Board members and talk with
them. Believe it or not, they are human too.
Be well.
