42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2023 Our selection for Feb. 14 is Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng. Here is a brief description from Amazon. com: "Twelve-year-old Bird Gardner lives a quiet existence with his loving but broken father, a former linguist who now shelves books in a university library. His mother Margaret, a Chinese American poet, left the family when he was nine years old without a trace. Bird knows to not ask too many questions, stand out too much, or stray too far. For a decade, his family's life has been governed by laws written to preserve 'American culture' in the wake of years of economic instability and violence. To keep the peace and restore prosperity, the authorities are now allowed to relocate children of dissidents, especially those of Asian origin, and libraries have been forced to remove books seen as unpatriotic. Bird has grown up disavowing his mother and her poems; he doesn't know her work or what happened to her, and he knows he shouldn't wonder. But when he receives a mysterious letter containing only a cryptic drawing, he is pulled into a quest to find her. His journey will take him back to the many folktales she poured into his head as a child, through the ranks of an underground network of librarians, into the lives of the children who have been taken, and finally to New York City, where a new act of defiance may be the beginning of much-needed change." Our meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:30 am in the RCN room #3, and someone volunteers to lead the discussion about the book we have chosen for the month. For more information about the Four Seasons Book Club or to get on our mailing list, please contact me at michelesrosen@gmail.com. ~ Micki Rosen Book Club Travel Group Lots of good news to tell this month. We are looking forward to another year and more trips. Our Travel Expo was a big hit not only with residents but the vendors as well. They donated several prizes for our raffle plus some had their own drawings, raffles, and giveaways as well. It was fun and interesting. We also met new vendors and saw what they had to offer. Thank you to the members who volunteered their time doing set up, take down, and whatever job they were asked to do — your help was greatly appreciated. We meet the third Saturday at 10 am every month (instead of every other month) in The Lodge Ballroom and we will have a new speaker each month. Come see who is there and what they have to offer. Our trips and events are open to all residents and you don't have to be a member to travel with us or to attend our events. For more info, call Joni Truelsen at (661) 390-5512 or email me at jonitruellsen@yahoo.com. For membership info, email Irene Welker at Irenewelker55@gmail.com and put "New Member" in the subject line. Our next meeting is Feb. 18. See you all then and remember, you never know what life may bring so enjoy yourself and travel. ~ Joni Truelsen As a result of a Town Hall meeting by the HOA Board of Directors, we canceled our January meeting. Many of our club members attended the Town Hall meeting on information on a solar contract. Our next meeting will be on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 5:30 pm at The Courts. The Steering Committee is currently planning activities for this meeting and information will be published in the Daily Report as it becomes available. The Italian American Club is open to all residents of Four Seasons. You do not have to be Italian to join our group or come to our meetings. We would love to have you come visit with us. To all our Italian American Club members and all residents of Four Seasons, we hope we will see you all soon. Non Vedo L Oro Di Vederti Presto (Looking forward to seeing you soon). ~ Barbara Dipoma, (805) 377-2616 and Jerry Monahan, (951) 212-8898 Italian American Club
