| OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2023 | 9 A Tree is a Tree and More Ahh February — the month of Valentines, cupids, and love. For the Master Landscape Committee, we feel that love with plants, flowers, and especially trees! We are committed to preserving, enlarging, and growing with the new knowledge gained on our Landscape Committee, to enhance the beauty of Ocean Hills. That commitment means we take very seriously the loss of plant material and trees in particular. The very last solution is to remove a tree. However, if a tree is deemed diseased, in particular, then we recognize that the tree must be removed as it has come to the end of its life and can cause future damage if left in place. Every tree here is an asset and a valuable source of oxygen, and remover of other elements, like carbon dioxide. We posted a few articles in 2022 about the value of our Tree Canopy in synergy with cities' environmental agencies addressing climate change. Did you know that we have a professional arborist who makes an Annual Assessment and report each year of every tree? For example, a total of 2,726 in 2021 were assessed, of which 533 were pruned and only 26 removed. The 2022 report is forthcoming. The picture is a master map of 16 sections, showing OHCC homes and the location of trees. It is never the call of the Landscape Committee to take any final action to remove a tree unless the tree is visibly rotting or in danger of falling down. If you have a question about a tree removal, pruning, or possible replacement, please fill out a work order or call the HOA to leave a message with the Landscape Operations Director. A follow up appointment will be made for The Landscape Committee to come and view the tree in question. This is not only the preferred process but the more effective as opposed to making assumptions or comments on other social media about removal of a tree. You are also invited to come to a Master Landscape Committee meeting, held every month, generally the fourth Friday at 10 am in the HOA Conference Room. Feel free to call the HOA to confirm as occasionally that date may change. We welcome your attendance and will give you time to speak if you have any questions or concerns. Landscape Committee
