12 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2023 | The Golf Advisory Committee is composed of nine members: one representative from each of the four Championship Course clubs, three Executive Course clubs, and two at-large members. GAC club representatives for 2023 are Mary Wilkie (Couples Club), Tony Browne (Men's Golf Club), Pamela D'Arca (Women's Golf Club), Judy Jones (Lady Niners), Joanne Dixon (Ladies Executive Golf Club), David Amar (Executive Men's Club), and Mike Smith (Saturday Morning Golf Group). The at-large members are Jon Litty and Mike Callahan. Each of the representatives are chosen by their clubs and granted the authority to make decisions on behalf of their membership. The GAC representatives choose at-large members from homeowners submitting a volunteer interest form. The Master Board makes final approval of GAC membership. The focus of the GAC is on golf course maintenance and playability. Our first priority is to address any safety concerns that may come to our attention involving hazards to golfers and/or residents. Anyone who has concerns regarding safety, maintenance, or playability should let their Golf Club Representative/Board know or contact the GAC directly. As an Advisory Committee, our role is to bring these issues to the attention of the Master Board and make a recommendation regarding the action needed on behalf of our residents. Golf Advisory Safety Advisory On Dec. 4, Sun Lakes experienced another RV break in. This time a pontoon boat cover was damaged and a grill set and tools were taken without the cameras detecting the event. Banning PD was called. Mark Schleiden is working on getting a proposal for a more efficient camera and security system to protect the RV lot assets. Another loose small dog was attacked and put down by a coyote on the golf course. Animal Control was called but owners need to keep their dogs on leashes. Patrol has seen an increase in parking violations. Homeowners need to better assist their guests with pass instructions. ~ Bill Bess, (951) 769-8022 Sun Lakes Committee Reports Library Advisory "I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book." Wise words from none other than television icon Groucho Marx. Take his advice, turn off the TV and wander over to one of our libraries and find some good books to read. Did you know the North Clubhouse library has a military history section and we've added some new titles? Have you read Erik Larson's The Splendid and the Vile: A Saga of Churchill, Family, and Defiance During the Blitz? An Amazon bestseller, Larson documents Churchill's first year as prime minister. Belgium and Austria fell on his first day in office and Churchill had the daunting task of rallying the British to fight to the end. A fascinating, thrilling "you are there" account of Britain's war efforts, Churchill's brilliant support staff and Churchill family drama make this a real page-turner. Not to be missed! Also new… Outlaw Platoon: Heroes, Renegades, Infidels, and the Brotherhood of War in Afghanistan by Sean Parnell, a lieutenant in the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division, known as the Outlaws. Ambushed in the Hindu Kush, Parnell's unit fought Pakistan- based insurgents for over a year. Bravery, fear, combat leadership and the bonds of love and comradeship forged in war make for a gripping story. EPAP has produced a DVD now available for borrowing from all (paperback) libraries. Topics are: EPAP in Action, File of Life, and 12 Steps to Preparedness. When you're finished, please return it to the library where you found it. Lifestyles Magazine is the resource most residents turn to in order to find out what's going on in our community. At 80 pages, it includes articles from the MB, Delegate Assembly, FirstService, the restaurant, the golf pro, and all the advisory committees. Clubs and groups send articles and photos about their activities to Sunlakesnews@yahoo.com by the sixth of each month. The LAC meets on the seventh of each month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit the articles submitted for each month's issue of the magazine. To keep us updated about events and news in our community, we meet with Master Board member Lori Hazelton, Assistant General Manager Jason Ewals, and Recreation Director Kara Lukasik. We also publish want ads and for sale items from residents at no cost, and hide a monthly joke for residents to find. Responses to our "Get the Joke" contest are put in a hat and a winner is randomly drawn, earning a restaurant gift card as a prize. Photographs taken by residents of areas within Sun Lakes are used on the magazine cover. Our committee is at its full complement for 2023, but if you're good at proofreading and are interested in joining us if a vacancy arises, please fill out a volunteer application form that you can get in the Main Clubhouse lobby.
