| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2023 | 55 On Dec. 10, 2022, the Sun Lakes Tennis Club elected new officers to this year's Executive Board. Our Executive Board is now poised to arrange another full range of tennis enjoyment. Executive Board members are pictured (L-R): Robert Henrich (Secretary), Mark Vanderpool (First VP), Lillie Sims (Treasurer), Kim Jensen (Second VP), and Bill Hendra (President). Our President, Bill Hendra, will continue to lead the Tuesday and Thursday morning Drop-In Mixed Doubles Mixers that start at 8:00 am. All are welcome, regardless of skill levels. A nominal fee is requested to cover the cost of tennis balls. Also, our first Saturday of the month mixers remain open to all Sun Lakes residents regardless of skill level. Join us, on Sat., Feb. 4, 8 am Skills Session, 8:30 am Mixed Doubles Mixer. According to President Hendra, "We are a social club that also plays tennis." Therefore, the Club will continue to host a number of social gatherings that start with a Valentine's Day themed potluck supper on Sat., Feb. 18, 6 pm, in the South Clubhouse. A Club mixer may precede the meal. The cost of membership remains at just $10 per person, including those who simply wish to attend our social gatherings. Membership forms and envelopes are available in the South Clubhouse. Use the secure, slotted box to submit your completed form with money. All residents of Sun Lakes are welcome to use our first-class courts, six in all, located adjacent to the South Clubhouse. The rules for court use are clearly posted and ought to be honored. The courts, for example, are not to be used as play areas for pets or for riding on skateboards. Further, Tennis Club scheduled activities always take precedence. We thank Sun Lakers for your kind consideration. Finally, a Tennis Tip by Phil Hazelton who says that 70 percent of the time we have service problems it is because our toss is inconsistent, meaning it's tossed all over the place. To improve your toss, lift the ball instead of tossing it. There should be no spin on the ball. Do not flip the ball up with your wrist. Lift it up and make contact with the ball at the peak of the lift, not on the way down. Reduce the power of the serve as well. Placement versus power is always the best strategy. Remember to keep your eye on the ball and the fun in your game. Tennis
