| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2023 | 5 The Pass Action Group (PAG) continues the fight against the Banning Point project. We will be holding a Town Hall event on Tues., Feb. 7 at 6 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. At this meeting, the Board of Directors will be giving a summary of the "road traveled" since inception of the PAG and where we are headed. Here's a quick summary of our legal case (lawsuit). • Our opening brief was filed on Dec. 9, 2022 – This is the main course of our action against the City of Banning and the developers • Their response brief is due to the court by Feb. 6, 2023 • Our reply brief will then be due to the court by March 9, 2023 • The judge will then review all documents and schedule a hearing. It is expected the hearing will take place in April or May 2023. Our banner project was a success in bringing more awareness to the community. We have received generous donations from the recycling program being coordinated by Dorrie Gartzke. We are currently working on other fundraiser events. Please keep an eye on the Facebook page, Pass Area Action Group, or our website at www.passactiongroup.org for more information. One of the PAG goals since the initiation of the lawsuit is to work towards changes within the city government. Here's a list of that progress: • District 3 Council Member: Previous member, resigned and then recalled in action initiated by Ms. Sheri Flynn. The recall was successful, and a special election was held, and the voters selected Ms. Flynn, previously the PAG Vice-President, to complete the vacated term. • District 2 Council Member: Previous member/Mayor, a recall was being initiated but he resigned prior to that. Council appointed Mr. Rick Minjares as a replacement to finish the term. • District 4 Council Member: Mr. Reuben Gonzales was elected to replace the former council member. This is for the full four-year term. • City Attorney has retired and been replaced by Ms. Serita Young. It is our hope that these changes will be beneficial in changing the feeling about building warehouses in residential areas. We hope to see you on Feb. 7. Remember, "it takes a community to save the community."
