26 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2023 Finance Committee During our January meeting, the financial statements for December 2022 were reviewed and recommended for Board approval. In addition, the Committee reviewed 12 expenditure proposals and reviewed investment recommendations to move maturing investments to higher-yield, FDIC-insured instruments. Highlights of the December financial statements are: • Total Cash is $11,603,504 including operating cash of $2,013,492 (checking and CDs) • Reserve assets of $5,590,012 • Our total year-to-date net income of ($12,157) A thank you goes to the Board and Committee who have worked very hard to keep our community fiscally healthy. Homeowners are welcome to join us at our regularly scheduled monthly meetings held on the last Tuesday of each month. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 1 pm. I would encourage all residents to become more familiar with the finances of our fantastic community. We would love to hear about your concerns and encourage you to share them with us. Attending a meeting only takes a little time and will give you a better understanding of how we operate. Come and join us in making this a thriving vibrant community. Our meetings are held in the RCN Conference Room. ~ Jolene Cooley joleneaudit@gmail.com Social Committee Hello residents! We may still have tickets left for the Swingin' 60s. Please check at the The Lodge front desk — you don't want to miss this — it will be filled with a lot of great music and dancing. Our next event is a Comedy Show. The three comedians performing that evening are Mike Cano as seen on NBC, MTV2, and Laughs on Fox. Jammin Jay Lamont has been featured on HBO, Showtime, Comedy Central, and BET Comic View. Last but not least is my favorite comedian, the Great Omar, seen on Hulu and Amazon. I think the reason I like him is that he makes fun of himself. The show is on April 22; doors open at 5:15 pm, show starts at 6 pm. Tickets are $25 per person and are non-refundable. There is no assigned seating. BYOB. We will have coffee, water, and some sort of sweets. We will have one door prize and three large raffle baskets. Please bring extra $$ to help raise funds for our next event. Don't miss this show! Please invite your friends and neighbors. If there are any tickets left, we will open it up to non-residents the last two weeks before the event starts. Thank you for all your support to our Social Committee; we so appreciate each and everyone of you. ~ Loretta Ramsey, lorettaramsey@aol.com, (714) 803-6744 Landscape Committee Spring is only a few weeks away and the days are getting longer. This year, the first day of spring is on March 20. This day is the vernal equinox on which day and night are equal in length. As spring approaches, the plants that have been dormant seem to spring to life. Maybe that's why it's called spring? Actually, that really is it. In England, beginning in the 14th century, that time of year was called "springing time" — a reference to plants springing from the ground. In the 15th century this got shortened to "spring-time" and then further shortened in the 16th century to just "spring." Before spring arrives, however, there are a few tasks that need to be done. Be sure to rake up any leaves around your shrubs. They can provide a haven for snails, slugs, and other chewing insects. They can also hold plant diseases. You may also want to give roses and deciduous fruit trees a last shot of an oil spray. It can help to smother insect eggs that have been laid on the bark of these plants. It can also help prevent rose diseases. Many portions of the community are observed by the Landscape Committee on an ongoing, periodic basis. If the idea of learning more about our terrain appeals to you, why not join us for one of our Friday walks? These walks currently take place every other week and typically take one to two hours and will give you a chance to get the blood pumping and meet residents of our community. Kat Hughes of FirstService will be able to give you more info when you contact her. ~ Kirk Freyermuth, kafreyer@frontier.com
