FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2023 59 Bocce Club Bocce Ball is played at The Summit on two green courts which overlook the surrounding valley with beautiful views. We play on Tuesday and Friday at 9 am. Hopefully, we'll see you out there having some fun throwing the Bocce Ball around. If you are interested in learning the game, please join us. We have a great group of players who will welcome you. If you have any questions, please call or text me at (909) 747-7087 or email hanknegrete16@yahoo.com. ~ Hank Negrete Hopefully by the time you read this, the freezing weather will have passed and you will have your bike ready for warm-weather rides. California passed new laws effective Jan. 1 that address some e-Bike issues. They include allowing e-Bikes to use pathways and areas that expressly grant their use. (Think beach areas and boardwalks.) Another newly passed law requires vehicles passing an e-Bike to move to another lane before passing. Just a reminder that your homeowner's insurance doesn't cover your e-Bike nor does your auto insurance. Should your e-Bike be stolen, lost, or damaged, you won't be covered. However, there are companies that do insure e-Bikes. A Google search will bring them up. Most policies run about $100 per year. Soon some rebates and cash assistance will become available for those who purchase new e-Bikes. Look for more information in the Breeze and the Daily Report. We've had plenty of both in recent weeks, making it advisable to forego some of our weekly Thursday rides. However, we did get a little lucky on a recent Thursday, finding ourselves with some pretty pleasant weather. We took advantage of the situation by riding out to the Chiriaco Summit to visit the General George Patton Memorial Museum. If you are a World War II history buff, you won't be disappointed taking the tour walking through an amazing collection of indoor exhibits and, of course, exploring the outdoor collection of WWII and post WWII battle tanks. The museum is in our own backyard, only 78 miles east of Beaumont, so take advantage of this jewel by taking the tour. By the way, before visiting the museum we ate at the Chiriaco Summit Restaurant and it was well worth it. Good food and nice indoor and outdoor seating. There is still a lot of snow in the mountains and, undoubtedly, there is a lot of runoff on the highways so we will probably avoid heading up to Big Bear or Idyllwild over the next few weeks. However, there are still plenty of other Thursday riding options. For example, riding through Joshua Tree National Park is a great ride this time of year as well as heading south through the Temecula wine country. There's also Borrego Springs and taking the loop around the Salton Sea. There are lots of options this time of year and it never gets old. Weather permitting, we head out on our weekly Thursday rides at 9 am so if you enjoy riding and want to learn more about the Four Seasons Motorcycle Club (MC), join us on one of our weekly rides. You will find us in The Lodge parking lot. We leave promptly at 9 am so plan on arriving a few minutes early. Hope to see you there! Retirement is good. Every year the MC goes on two or three multi-day rides ranging from two-day rides up to seven or eight days. Some of our longer destinations in recent years have been Northern California, Utah, Arizona, and the Grand Canyon. Shorter rides have been to Ojai and Jacumba. For 2023, we are planning on a ride to Monterey in early May. It's still in the planning stages and depending on the route, this will be a four or five day ride. For now, we are tentatively scheduled to depart May 7. If you enjoy riding but have never had the opportunity to go on a multi-day ride, join us! Nothing better than a day of riding, followed up by dining with friends, resting up overnight and then heading out the next day and doing it all over again. ~ Jim Ayala Motorcycle Club Mark Leary, Jim Ayala and Terry Humble at the General George Patton Memorial Museum at Chiriaco Summit One of the tanks on display at the museum. Incredible exhibits!
