42 | LIFE IN SOLERA | MARCH 2023 | GOLF CLUB GOLFERS WANTED! Men and women are welcome to come and play golf with our Solera Golf Club. The goal is to have fun no matter what your skill level is, while improving your game. We play each Tuesday morning at different courses during the month. We'd love it if you would like to join us for a round or two before deciding if you would like to join us on a regular basis. We'll have a couple of club members and a board member in your group to play with you should you want to give us a try. You can contact Jim Karalun at (951) 769- 2535 for more information. Karalun recently signed up our newest member, Craig Martin. Craig and his wife Cindy have been Solera residents for about eight months. He's a lifelong Southern Californian. They moved here from Corona after calling that home for about 25 years. We welcome both of you to Solera and the Golf Club. Mike Kurz, who's pictured with Craig below, has been an owner here in Solera since 2006. He and his wife, Ingrid, are here in California each year from December to about May. Their primary residence is in Bavaria, Germany which is about 50 miles north of Munich. He spent most of his career working for Siemens USA and the reason they keep returning every year to Solera is because their children and grandchildren live close by in Orange County. Jyun and Gloria Yamashiro moved back to Maui at the end of January. Jyun had mentioned that he left Maui when he was 18 and they decided it's time to return home. Aloha. This month's golf games in order are CHA-CHA-CHA on the 7th; two person best ball on the 14th; four person three best ball on the 21st, and on the 28th we start our first round of Match Play. January started out wet and our first two weeks of play was canceled due to the wet weather. That said, the next three Tuesdays yielded the following 1st place winners: Jan. 17 John Dockery, Brad McDuffee, and Richard Martin won the Four Man Two Best Ball game; Jan. 24 Bob Marks and Tony Smith were 1st place gross skins while Dave Duncanson, Ernie Salvador, and Richard Crowe were the net skins winners; Jan. 31 had a tie for 1st place between Richard Martin and Jerry Stearn. Congrats to all the winners. Soboba Spring's 14th hole green as seen from near the par 3 tee box. Mike Kurz (L) and Craig Martin (R) teammates on Craig's first game with the golf club. Marty Anderson is about to hit his tee shot on Yucaipa Valley's 10th hole. As we are now heading into spring, we should be playing every Sunday again. It's really not that hard to play and it gets you out of the recliner chair. You don't have to be a couple to join us. We are playing at 4 pm until it starts getting warmer. Please come by or call Dorothy Hoffecker at (951) 217-5357. SUNDAY EVENING BOCCE
