28 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2023 | Fiber Artists From dishrags to beautiful scarves and anything else you can think of, it can be created with fabulous yarns. Join us Mondays as we knit, crochet, quilt, cross stitch, and more, on various projects of our own. Seeing what others are working on and creating is half the fun. We meet Mondays in the North Clubhouse at 12:30 pm. The second Monday of each month we share our yarn and supplies, swapping them around, and on the last Monday of each month we share a potluck lunch. We can remind you how to do what you learned as a child at grandmother's knee or start you on a new hobby. Call Carol Willis at (404) 245-6939 or Diane Black at (801) 367-5999. I hope everyone had a happy Valentine's Day. We're enjoying free shopping time of items gifted to us. Chris brought her Go Dye cutter and we had fun using it. We're doing a kit by Becky and Mary to learn how to work with wool. Come join us. In memory of Christine Smithberg, pictured below is a beautiful quilt she made of Redwoods/Dogwoods. For info, call Jan Hamm at (951) 212- 6799 or Vivian Myrdahl at (626) 221-0872. We meet the first, third, and fifth Mondays from 1 to 3 pm. Sun Lakes Quilters Sew What? Club In January on our "project day," Kathy Ankenman brought in her Cricut Joy machine and demonstrated what can be done with it. For those of you who are not familiar with this machine, it is a die-cutting machine. For its compact size, it has amazing capabilities. It is a "smart" machine, as it can be linked to your phone, tablet, or laptop, via Bluetooth. Thousands of images are available to cut out on a variety of materials, creating stickers, cards, labels, and personalized apparel. With its special pencil, it can draw lettering along with many other designs. It will cut out intricate shapes and details, enabling beautiful designs to be produced with stunning results. Thanks to Kathy for explaining it to us. The end of February, we had a supplies exchange day, where we purged our drawers, cabinets, and storage boxes at home, and brought items and tools to class to exchange with others in the group who could use them. Whatever was left over went to a church, where kids will be able to use all these craft items for their own creations. Thanks to Beve Reneau for locating a great place for our remnants to end up. Our meeting days in March are as follows: On Mon., March 6 we will be in the Bus Room from 1 to 3 pm; on Thurs., March 9, we will have our birthday luncheon in the Atrium at 11 am; and the last two Mondays of the month, March 20 and 27, we will be in the Multipurpose Room from 1 to 3 pm. There is no meeting the week of March 13. There are no dues for the Paper Crafting group. We just show up and have fun! Any questions, call Elaine Perkins at (951) 334-3119 or Sallie Flesher at (951) 902-9768. Paper Crafting All ladies interested in sewing are encouraged to attend our Sew What? Club meetings the first and third Tuesdays in the Arts & Crafts Room from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.
