Over the past several months the Master Board of Directors (MBD) has been exploring means to improve governance and strengthen fiduciary controls to ensure all aspects of our community function in an optimal manner. We believe it is essential that the ambiance, financial, and management agendas (short and long term) are better aligned to more fully satisfy the responsibilities of the MBD. These discussions led us to realize that our community is lacking a comprehensive Master plan. Historically, the MBD has relied on the annual budgeting process, review of current reserve projects, and other imminent issues to determine the next year's plan. While this approach satisfies the Board's minimum legal requirements, it does not always lead to the best way to achieve objectives with confidence that all SLCC issues will be dealt with uniformly in a cohesive and planned fashion. In recognition of the above, the MBD has resolved to initiate a process which will result in the creation of a strategy driven multi- year Master Plan. A Master Plan Initiative (MPI) team consisting of Bob Hix, Ron Varner, and Steve von Rajcs has been created. The MPI team is charged with the development of a project plan, identification of qualified consulting resources, and organizing those who are most likely to play a part in defining critical issues. An initial orientation meeting composed of the MBD, Delegate (chair and co-chair), committee chairpersons, and operational department heads was conducted on Feb. 8. The planning process is expected to commence in March 2023 with the objective of having a draft plan by the end of August 2023. The MBD believes that with a Master Plan in place, the entire SLCC community can have greater confidence all issues are addressed within the context of the plan and that the HOA governance has the requisite structure to remain focused on implementation of the vision and mission set forth. This will enable our community to accomplish broad goals with more precise directives for future changes and improvements. If you have further questions, please contact one of the Master Board members or MPI Team members (Bob Hix: hixfix@comcast. net; Ron Varner: rlvarners@hotmail.com; Steve von Rajcs: svr6@ aol.com).
