14 | THE COLONY NEWS | MARCH 2023 | HOUSE PAINTING: Soon, the paint applications will have a new format, and we are hoping this will make it easier to complete. Our current paint book collection will be the only one that can be used when completing the application. In most cases, if you like your current house color, there will be one that is very similar to choose. You will not be able to write "same as original" on the application. If your home has terracotta tubular flues above your garage door, please make sure your painter masks them off when painting your stucco. Some homes have over-spray from the stucco on the flues. STUCCO WALLS: Please take a look at your street facing and courtyard stucco walls. Many walls are looking stained and in need of repair and painting. We understand the need to conserve water, but hosing off the wall may remove dirt which could turn into a stain. Have you checked your rain gutters recently? Sometimes these stains are caused by rain gutter run-off. FINAL INSPECTIONS: Yes, when you complete a home project, we do come out for a visit. Please don't call the office to report a finished project if it is NOT completely finished. If you need to extend the completion date of your project, please call the office so we can extend the completion date. ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL By Gloria Brosky At our first meeting of 2023 in January, we were delighted to view a presentation of our proposed new Colony website. It will soon be shown to the Board, and if approved, will then be available for residents' approval. We also launched three new subcommittees. Marketing Outreach, led by Jane Payne, will be working on a series of brochures. One will be generic for The Colony and others will be specific for the committees and clubs. Meryl McDougal will head up a subcommittee to begin researching 5G broadband for The Colony, which has been approved by the Board. Charlie Stewart will be leading another subcommittee to prepare our Colony Daze project. We began gathering submissions for it last year. We continue to schedule video interviews of Colony residents for our Outreach to History project. If you know someone who might be interesting for us to record for the archives and a potential documentary, please contact me at greg@neotechstudios.com. COMMUNICATIONS & TECHNOLOGY By Greg Hill ACCESS CONTROL & SAFETY By Glenn Gerber The Access Control and Safety Committee is an advisory committee to The Colony Homeowners Association Board of Directors and the General Manager relating to all issues of community access and safety of residents and visitors. Our function is to evaluate access control and general safety of The Colony. The Access Control Committee receives monthly reports and statistics from Community Patrol (Nordic Security). The monthly report from Community Patrol indicates the following activity and violations that Nordic Security responded to and/or assisted in keeping with the safety and welfare of the Association. Security Statistics for January 2023: • 17,628 Jackson Gate entries • 9 Property/Residents checks • 3 Stop sign violations • 29 Medical, fire and police incidents • 23 Parking, Guest Pass & Vendor violations • 64 Trash can violations • 13 Garage doors left open • 54 Miscellaneous incidents Rules and Regulations – Article 4, Section 1.4 Entrance at all resident gates is permitted by the resident vehicle transponder ONLY. If upon arrival the entrance barrier is down/ closed, the vehicle should continue through the first stop sign and proceed to the one directly in front of the gate, or to the point that the barrier automatically goes up. In the event that a vehicle is already waiting at, or just passed through the gate, then all following vehicles must wait at the first stop sign indicator until the gate barrier drops behind the preceding vehicle. MOVING FORWARD BEFORE THAT EVENT IS A DANGEROUS AND ILLEGAL USE OF THE GATE ENTRANCE PROCEDURE. THE BARRIER MUST BE ALLOWED TO CLOSE IMMEDIATELY AFTER EACH ENTRANCE.
