Matinee Club
Mark your calendars: On Sun., April 23, we bring you
another outstanding talent: Djeliba Baba, the Storyteller. When
we hosted Baba a decade ago, I was surprised to make the check
out to "Baba the Storyteller," and was delighted to learn that
his entire performance was every bit as entertaining and
unique as his name. Since then, he has traveled the world,
educating through performance. My favorite way to learn!
Baba will bring us the history of his African roots through
story-telling; he'll introduce us to the Kora, an intriguing
African instrument. Before long, we'll be singing along. This
event will be highly interactive, as he leads us in understanding the
history of his ancestors. How talented and popular is Baba? During
Black History Month (February) and all of January, Baba
performed every single day. That should give you an
idea. We only bring acts on campus that we consider
to be exceptional; you will regret missing this one.
Per usual, seats will be reserved and paid for at the front
desk, with general seating: $15 for members and $20 for
guests. This is an extremely family friendly show. Bring the kids,
grands and greats! Annual membership in the Matinee Club is $10,
which pays for itself in two events! Seating begins (at Cabaret tables,
seating four or six, depending on the size of the final audience) at
1:30 pm with a start time of 2 pm. Please reserve a seat early. The
show WILL sell out.
