| OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2023 | 37 At the end of April, 14 RVs and four WOW couples will set out for the well- known wine area of Paso Robles. One of the highlights of the trip will be a private dinner in an underground restaurant. One of the most unique aspects of Eberle Winery are the underground caves. In 1996, Eberle Winery unveiled 8,000 square feet of underground caves, fulfilling the need for more storage space while providing an ideal naturally cool and relatively high humidity climate for the wine barrels. The success of the initial caves inspired the decision to dig even further. By the end of 1999 the caves were extended, completing a grand total of 16,800 square feet of winding tunnels beneath the winery. The distance from the surface to the caves below is an average of 30 feet with 12-inch-thick reinforced concrete walls which helps maintain a natural average temperature of 60 degrees year around. The caves are home to the Wild Boar Room where winemaker dinners and private events are held. Certainly, a special place to dine! After further exploring Paso Robles, the group will move on to Petaluma for five nights. An interesting day has been planned to take the SMART train ride from Petaluma to the Larkspur ferry to San Francisco with Hop-on, Hop- off bus tickets to explore the history, architecture and culture of San Francisco. Before that trip, in early April, the RV Club will sponsor a Pop-Up campout at nearby Guajome County Park. Attendees will enjoy a campsite BBQ, happy hours and a pizza party. There will be a private tour of the Rancho Guajome Adobe historical site. Also, a tour of the fascinating Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum, including hand weavers barn, wrought iron foundry and other traditional craft areas will be offered. Then in May, a trip to Lone Pine and Bishop and the Mule Days festival will take place. The April RV Club meeting will be held on the 25th in Abravanel Hall. Trip sign-up and social time at 6:30 pm and business meeting at 7 pm. RV Club Water photography offers a variety of creative possibilities. It may seem simple, but you can achieve wonderful shots using a variety of techniques. 1. Water Droplets – capturing droplets in midair or splashing into a pool of liquid. This is a form of macro photography, so you may want to use your closest focusing lens ore a macro lens if you have one. 2. Reflections - A calm day at the ocean, a harbor, or on a lake provides an excellent opportunity to get unusual reflection shots. In the U.S. Coast Guard, we appreciated FACTTR conditions (Flat-Assed Calm with Teeny Tiny Ripples). These are ideal for reflection photography. The reflection shot was taken on a trip to Maine last year. It was not always this calm! 3. Motion shots – waves, fast moving creeks, waterfalls, all provide great opportunities for creative shots. You have to decide whether to try to freeze the motion or let it blur, but either way you can have success. The waterfall is in a park in Texas, usually a trickle, but this photo was after heavy rain. 4. Puddles – after the winter of 2023, we all had lots of puddles to deal with, preferably not indoors. You can get some interesting shots when water is where it is not expected to be. The table is in a back yard here in OHCC. It has been getting wet a lot lately. 5. Surf - We have lots of opportunities to photograph the ocean around here. When you hear about King Tides, that is a good chance to go to the shore (not too close) and photograph some very large waves, and possibly some serious surfers. Our club is open to all residents. On April 20, at 1 pm in the Lamia Room, we plan to have OHCC resident Robert Genat as a guest speaker to talk about travel photography. Robert has presented for us before and we welcome him back. In June, there is a chance for us to display our work in the Art Room in the Clubhouse. If you have some favorites you would like to show, please try to have them enlarged (if necessary) and framed for display. More details forthcoming soon. Photography
