| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2023 | 17 As the weather warms and the rainy season wanes, we start to think of the exterior appearance of our properties. That includes plant material, exterior maintenance and painting of our homes. The last homes built in Sun Lakes will soon be celebrating their 20th anniversary. That means that all homes should have been painted since they were originally occupied. Each homeowner is required to paint the wood trim on their property every four years and the stucco every 16 years. All painting must be approved. There are approved color palettes for the exterior colors. The approved colors are available for your inspection at the Administration Office. Prior to any painting, a Home Improvement Application must be submitted to the Master Architectural Committee showing proposed areas to be painted, with color samples attached. Please procure the signatures of two adjacent homeowners on your application. These signatures are not intended to indicate approval of the homeowner's selection, but rather to acknowledge that they are aware of the homeowner's intention. Incomplete applications will not be considered by the Committee. Trim is defined as all exterior wood, vinyl, wrought iron or other surfaces such as fences, garage doors, patio covers, gazebos, shutters, and eves. Painting contractors' schedules fill up early. They sometimes have a wait time of several months. If you plan to paint your house this spring or summer, please get your bids from contractors and turn in your application early. ~ Roy Nierman, Chairman of the Master Architectural Committee Master Architectural Sun Lakes Committee Reports Recreation Advisory March events included The Swingin' 60s concert with 220 residents in attendance. A staggered seating style was introduced, giving the audience a much better view of the stage. The Craft Fair and the Switchback concert were also enjoyed by many. Look for flyers available for activities in the bins in the lobby. Sign up early to ensure the event will not be canceled. Each household can purchase up to four tickets. Motown Madness has been rescheduled for May 26 and Diamond is Forever will be May 12. Make your reservations at the reception desk or in the Activities Office. Don't miss the exciting events that have been planned for you. New Recreation Committee members are Stephanie Franklin, Kathy Hamby, Sussi Messick, Janice Walsh, and Gloria Pena. They join five returning members to complete the committee. Library Advisory Thanks to all who attended our book sale in March. It was fun to chat with you and tell you about the Sun Lakes libraries. We appreciate your support since any funds collected will go towards the purchase of new books and who doesn't want new books? Once you've read the books you bought at the sale, we don't want them back. Instead, please share them with a friend or donate them to a local public library or thrift store. The Banning, Beaumont, Calimesa, and Redlands public libraries accept donations as will these local thrift stores: Oasis in Beaumont, Set Free in Banning, Angel View in Yucaipa, and Revivals Stores in Palm Springs and Palm Desert. A reminder to please return your items to the library where you found them. Puzzles are to be returned to the North Clubhouse and South Clubhouse, NOT the Main Clubhouse. And, if you've read one of our new titles, please return it to the appropriate library (as stamped on the book's top pages) so others can read it. Want to volunteer?
