| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2023 | | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2023 | 69 69 Dr. William "Bill" Spahn It is with the deepest sorrow that the family of Dr. William "Bill" Spahn announce his passing on January 29, 2023. On this day, the world lost a beloved husband, father, physician, and friend. Bill was born and raised in St. Matthews, Kentucky, a suburb of Louisville, on January 17, 1948. Described as a sweet and kind child, it was no surprise that he would choose medicine as his vocation. Quickly sprouting to 6'9',' he excelled in sports, but never wavered in his devotion to his pursuit of medicine. He attended Trinity High School, and then Bellarmine College on a basketball scholarship where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1970. His hard work and determination paid off as he went on to attend University of Louisville School of Medicine, graduating with his medical degree in 1974. He received the first Annual Outstanding Student in Family Medicine Award foreshadowing a 47-year long career. He headed west and did his residency in Family Practice at San Bernardino County Medical Center in 1977. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, nursing student Michele Costello. They were married in 1977 during his first year of practice as a partner with Redlands/Yucaipa Family Practice group. They would go on to have a son, Adam, and daughter Kimberly, who they raised in Yucaipa. Bill was in private practice for six years until joining Beaver Medical Group in 1991 where he served the patients of Yucaipa until 2022. Described as the "gentle giant," he was beloved by both patients and those with whom he worked. Despite his vast accomplishments and contributions to the community, he always remained humble, compassionate, and devoted to his patients and family. He and Michele moved to Sun Lakes 15 years ago and he could often be seen walking his dog, Bodie, stopping to chat with his beloved neighbors. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Michele, his daughter Kimberly Spahn MD, his son Adam Spahn who gave him his most valued title of Grandpa to Wolf Spahn, and his sister Virginia who resides in their family home in St. Matthews, KY. While Bill's family is devastated by his passing, they know that this man, whose height was only surpassed by the size of his heart, will not be forgotten. John Herbert Wells was born April 16, 1927 and passed away February 9, 2023. A long-time resident of Sun Lakes, John was a member of the Art League, Paisanos, Social Singles, Young at Heart, International Culture Club, Friendship Club, and loved dancing, golf, and parties, even when he was into his 90s. He was a tall, handsome Englishman who was proud to say he was an American longer than an Englishman. He served in World War II, and as a veteran, he was a member of The Canadian Legion in Glendale. He is survived by his daughter Suzanne and son-in-law Donald Weed, and long-time loving partner Bette Jo Ford.
