18 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2023 | Renovation of the fairway sand traps on the Championship Course holes #1 thru #9 is underway. The design plan for renovation will follow the same contour and shaping used for the greenside sand traps. Likewise, the fairway sand traps will have new improved drainage, use of a liner material, and new sand. Renovation of the White tee boxes on Championship holes #4, #7, #11, and #14 will be done at the same time along with replacing cart path concrete between Championship holes #5, #6, and #7 at the tee, and #15 at the green. All this work will be done concurrently, which will save money and minimize the time of disruptions on the golf course. Golf Maintenance is looking forward to this being an efficient process due to the experience gained last year renovating the greenside bunkers using the same contractor. While some residents may not fully understand why a golf course should ever be renovated, almost everyone knows the value of upgrading the kitchen or bathroom in a house. Once completed, golfers should enjoy an upgraded contemporary look and improved playability that should last 15-20 years. This makeover will eliminate the mud, standing water, and excessive weed growth in the bunkers and provide homeowners on the golf course an improved aesthetic view of the golf hole from their backyard. All residents of Sun Lakes will get the benefit of an investment into our biggest asset. Golf maintenance projects and the fairway/sand trap projects will recover the cost of renovation in five years through the savings in current labor costs to maintain outdated bunkers. All this work should be completed by the end of April. Golf Advisory Safety Advisory This is a great community and we all want to keep it safe and beautiful. One of the main issues we in the Safety Advisory Committee deal with are parking violations. Be aware that if you receive three or more parking citations in a 90-day period you may be invited to a Safety Committee Hearing to provide an explanation and you could be fined. It is every homeowner's responsibility to be aware of how to obtain passes for yourself and/or guests and how many you are eligible for in a given time period. All of these rules and regulations are available in your Sun Lakes phone book. If you have a guest, be sure they renew their parking pass before it expires. Patrol will look for passes in the front windshield of any car parked outside – on a street or driveway from 12 am to 6 am. Also remember to close your garage doors when you aren't in there – especially at night. It's a good idea to establish a garage door check routine before you retire for the evening. Securitas Patrol has started dog-off-the-leash enforcement. Any resident who is seen in a common area and doesn't have their dog leashed is subject to receiving a citation. So please be mindful of this rule and keep your dog leashed at all times when in the community. Regarding walking your dog, it is not allowed to use a vehicle to do this. Some residents have been spotted using bicycles or golf carts to "walk" their dogs. This is unsafe for many reasons. Violators are subject to being cited. Everyone — please be a cautious, careful, and defensive driver. This is a senior community and our reactions aren't as swift as they once were. So please drive at the posted speed limits and be vigilant always. This caution applies to drivers of cars and golf carts. Sun Lakes Committee Reports The Restaurant & Lounge Advisory Committee, as all SLCC committees, was created and designed to advise your Master Board of Directors. Currently, this committee is made up of experienced Restaurant & Lounge volunteers. We take your accolades, critiques, suggestions, and concerns very seriously. Based on these, we create a written presentation to the Board on behalf of all residents. Our Master Board reviews and concludes a final decision on each issue or item proposed. You may continue to voice your sentiments in all areas by writing a "Message to Management." There are message slips and a message mailbox located at the Main Clubhouse reception desk. We are pleased to welcome Marsha Midgett and Janna Waller, two new additions to our committee. Wow! It's April… here's a little trivia: • April is named after the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite. • April means "to open." • There is a saying, "April showers bring May flowers." It is during this time when flowers and trees begin to bloom. We also enjoy April Fools' Day, Easter, and Earth Day, but not so much Tax Day. April is also National Poetry Month and Jazz Appreciation Month! Bring the whole family for our popular annual Egg-stravagant Easter Brunch. Call (951) 769-6654 to make your reservations early. Until next month, I'm wishing you everything that brings you joy. Remember to always surround yourself with love, laughter, and peace in your hearts. ~ Carole Elliott Restaurant & Lounge Advisory
