| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2023 | 3 The election time is here again; please take the time to vote for the candidates who share your concerns and vision for our amazing community. We have five candidates vying for three open board positions. On April 12, the votes will be tabulated and we will again have a full five- member Board of Directors. Sometimes during election campaigns unfounded rumors are spread. Believe it or not, the sky is not falling. We are very healthy financially. According to our Treasurer Ron Varner, "Last year we experienced a surplus of $249,750 better than budget and all major departments were positive with respect to budget with the exception of the food and beverage operation." Also, the Reserve/Captial Improvement Project spending was $704,708 less than budgeted. The Board has been conducting a financial analysis/audit of the food and beverage operation to address this ongoing problem. We have had some challenges outside of our community such as warehouses, drought, and traffic. However, we have made significant progress inside our community this past year. SLCC is becoming one of the premier affordable, gated, active retirement communities in California. It has been said that good things happen to those who wait. Well, we have been patiently waiting and finally some of our projects are coming to fruition. • A state-of-the-art pickleball complex with permanent courts, enlarged shade structures, upgraded seating and a refrigerator for drinks • Painting and casino-grade carpeting for the Ballroom, Billiards Room, hallways, and Atrium; new Ballroom chairs and tables • A new dehumidifier for the South Clubhouse pool, which has been long overdue • Our beautiful waterfalls are now allowed to be turned back on and we will, as soon as the requisite replacement or repairs are made for both gates 1 and 2 • The expansion of our Lounge with membership approval will be funded from our Capital Improvement Fund. Our recent survey revealed an 84 percent approval rating for this project and there will be a town hall on this matter on April 19 at 3 pm in the Ballroom • With the assistance of the Community Awareness Program we have removed the homeless encampments from the north side perimeter and are addressing our safety issues The Board is in the process of developing a SLCC Master Plan. The request for proposals has been sent out in order to select the best qualified consultant to assist in the development and implementation of our strategic master plan. Spring has finally arrived and we can now enjoy and appreciate our beautiful golf courses more. Thanks to the Garden Club for donating two benches. While you are out walking your dogs, remember to keep them on a leash as Securitas is now enforcing our leash laws. The Board conducted a survey to obtain membership input on two important issues; a dog park and the proposed lounge expansion. Thank you to Ajit Desai for developing and coordinating the survey as well as the District Delegates for distributing and collecting them. The results are as follows: in response to question #2: 62 percent in favor of the dog park and 38 percent opposed it; in response to questions #3: 27 percent of those opposed would support a dog park if paid for by the dog owners; and in response to question #4: 84 percent favored the Lounge expansion. These survey results are not binding on the Boards' ultimate decision on these matters; however, they will be taken into consideration. On April 4 from 5 to 8 pm in our Main Clubhouse Ballroom, we are hosting a Banning Business Expo in partnership with the Banning Chamber of Commerce. We will be showcasing the businesses of Banning. There will be door prizes and light refreshments will be served. This is the first event of this kind as we are attempting to build a better relationship with and support our local city. "Patience and Perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties and obstacles disappear" (unknown author). ~ Bob Walter, Randy Robbins, Beverly Simmons, and Lori Hazelton From the Master Board The Sun Lakes Country Club Homeowners Association Annual Meeting of the Membership and Election of Directors will be held on Wed., April 12, 2023, at 9 am, in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom (850 Country Club Drive, Banning, CA 92220).
