| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2023 | 55 POP Tennis, formerly known as Paddle Tennis, is a fun, fast sport that can be enjoyed by people at all fitness levels. Though played on a smaller court with a different paddle and 20 percent deflated tennis balls, POP Tennis is otherwise scored and regulated like traditional tennis. POP Tennis is played on the courts to the left of the Main Clubhouse on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8 to 10 am (spring/summer hours). Additionally, there is a group that plays Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 3 pm and Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday evenings from 6 to 8 pm. People are free to come and go as their schedules permit. All are welcome and there are always friendly folks to teach beginners the game! Paddles and balls are provided too. For more information or to be on a decision-making committee, please feel free to contact Carl Miller at (951) 512-3131. **All regular POP players are asked to get their $10 membership fee to Jeanne McGuire. The dues are used to plan parties, tournaments and buy balls and paddles. Hope you'll POP by! Our Wednesday winter league will be finishing in just three more weeks. We will have a two week interval, as summer leagues will begin on May 17. We are being hopeful and positive that our Wednesday morning summer league will continue to exist. We'll keep you informed. For those who only bowl in the summer league (May through August), this may be a good time to get your feet wet so please be sure and call me, Barbara Semic, at (951) 769-9809 and let me know before May 17. "The Almosts" (Laura and Ron Kosla, Ida Nilly and Paul Wojton) are still in first place but the "The Bi-Polar Rollers" (Carole Barringer, Mike Schroeder, Rick and Jim Ming) are closing the gap with only two games behind. While "I'm going on strike" (Joan Allen, Kay Fuiji, Dan Medrano and Ken Schnabel) are in third by only 4-1/2. Recognizing high scores for men: scratch series, 697, Andy Toro; scratch game, 277, Jon Skaggs; handicap Series, 793, Mike Steptenko; handicap game, 317, Richard Ming. Did you know the bowling pins wanted a raise, so they went on strike. ~ Barbara Semic, (951) 769-9809 Our Monday League continues to go on, despite severe weather and ongoing changes at Canyon Lanes. Let's all try to stay positive and hope our days at the lanes will continue. Here are the stats as of Feb. 20: Team 12, Lefties and Righties, is solidly in first place with 60 wins.
