| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2023 | 7 DID YOU KNOW? DID YOU KNOW? DID YOU KNOW that we do not over-seed our golf course? This allows us to keep it open year-round, and we use pigments on the turf to keep it from going completely dormant. The base of our golf course is Bermuda grass and it needs to be protected during the cold winter months, this year in particular! The pigment that we use is dark and usually contains iron and other nutrients. The dark color attracts the heat and keeps the roots of the Bermuda warm, kind of like putting a little blanket on it. This way, when spring comes, the Bermuda grass base is strong and will come back quickly. DID YOU KNOW that the Rules and Regulations are in your phone book immediately following the resident listings? This is a great place to start when you have any questions about whether something is, or is not, permitted. One of the biggest concerns in our community is parking and safety. On page 18 of the Rules & Regs in the phone book is Article V – Planning and Compliance and the first clause is all about parking and traffic. This touches on who can park where and when and how to obtain a special parking variance if needed. It also discusses speed limits, stop signs, and the actions that may be taken to enforce these rules. Speed limits and stop signs have been set for a reason. Please abide by them. DID YOU KNOW that cash is NOT king here in Sun Lakes? A few years ago, we stopped accepting cash payments. You may use a personal credit card, a check, or your House Account to pay for your purchases. The reason behind this is two-fold. When Covid hit, everyone became a germaphobe and the idea of "dirty money" took on a whole new meaning. Nobody wanted to touch paper money! But more importantly, moving away from accepting cash moved us toward a more trackable system of payments. Credit cards, checks, and house accounts leave a paper trail that documents transactions so no one is left guessing. But here's the good news! You may still give your server a cash tip – and in that case, it is king! By Beverly Simmons, Master Board 2nd Vice-President
