Jack & Jill By Dennis Murphy, 951-461-0457 Ladies Golf By Judy Lebovitz, 951-461-0065 The monthly tournament roster for February had 56 players from 14 foursomes vying for first place position in one of two flights in the "A & B Format" competition. This is always a competitive event and a hotly contested one. The weather could not have been better, with a 46° temperature at tee time and 72° at the conclusion. Excellent! Sadly, our repeat competitors in line to capture a three-peat position, John and Pat Sparkenbach, were stricken with the coronavirus and unable to compete. When the tournament was over, the following posted winning positions for the contest: Winning Teams "A" Flight 1st: 46.256, John and Anita Hoetker, Gary Wilson and Linda Peterson 2nd: 46.667, Dave Funston, Denise Sturm, Bob Miller and Marge Pierson 3rd: 47.457, John Comeau, Soky Hansen, Terry Lundquist and Sue Jordan "B" Flight 1st: 43.426, Bruce and Ann Hartwig, Bill and Susan Connelly 2nd: 43.611, Ed King, Barbara Keen, John McVeigh and Connie Vanderbyl 3rd: 44.411, Rich and Bea Brown, Greg Griffes and Laurie Freres Closest to the Pin #5: Women, Judy Lebovitz – 2'10" / Men, Bruce Dalfonso – 3'2" #15: Women, Anita Hoetker – 14'4.5" / Men, John McVeigh – 2'4" #16: Team #11 Rich and Bea Brown, Greg Griffes and Laurie Freres – 9'3" DARWIN AWARDS: The Darwin goes to Team #11, The Jack's, Rich Brown and Greg Griffes, who seemed very confused. The Jill's, Bea Brown and Laura Freres, seemed oblivious to the activity. Issue: While Rich and Greg were entering bogus CTP figures on holes #5 and #15, Bea and Laurie paid little or no attention to the "fake" recording occurring. After all was said and done, when the team got to hole #16, a light switch clicked on as the team nailed a 9'3" CTP second shot to the green to win the hole. Our next contest is set for Thursday, April 13, and will be our most popular venue, "Pick Your Own Foursome." As with all Jack and Jill events, you DO NOT have to be a member of either the Men's or Women's Golf Clubs to play. Just pick up your sticks and join us for the fun and friendly competition. See ya on the links! We are excited that we can start playing golf again, hopeful that the rain has stopped for a while. We had our March tournament as a scramble with the back nine ladies, who thoroughly enjoyed such a fun day. We enjoyed a delicious taco salad at our lunch, while also celebrating St. Paddy's Day! Beginning in April, we will tee off at 8 am, Tuesday mornings. If you are interested in joining this great group of ladies for either 9 or 18 holes, please contact our membership chair, Peggy Clendenen at 951-696-2169. I hope you are all keeping well and safe and warm and dry. We hope to see you on the course! | THE COLONY NEWS | APRIL 2023 | 33
