Colony Couples 2Ball By Dennis Murphy, 951-461-0457 Event Introduction: The golf community has launched a new event, Colony Couples 2Ball. While we have been actively playing this 9-Hole event since July 2022, we can now say it is a success and time to include it in our Club News. Originally, the concept was for holiday play using the RED, WHITE and BLUE as tournament colors (colors will continue) in a simple sign-up and play. I looked at the process as a "poor man's Jack and Jill" event. Serious golfers need not apply, for this is truly a simple FUN EVENT with golfers of all levels. Our focus is a "fun afternoon" of golf followed by a social gathering at a local restaurant. If you have interest, drop me an email at dmurph44@verizon.net and I will send you a 2023 tournament schedule (first Thursday afternoon of the month), rules of the game and include you in our active mailing list. Our next contest is set for Thursday, April 6. Requirements for this event are to be able to grasp a club! Being a member of the Men's or Women's Golf Club is not required. Just pick up some sticks and join us for a friendly afternoon of fun. Tee times vary based upon the setting of the sun. I look forward to hearing from you. See ya on the links! Men's Golf By Sam Currie, 951-461-0801 The wet (and cold) weather continued through February and into early March, leading to tough playing conditions for those hardy souls determined to play golf. Hopefully, we can get back to our full playing schedule soon. Our "winners table" for 2023 began at the beginning of November 2022 and ends on October 31. At the top of the table so far and obviously playing consistently well are, in order of merit, Mike Basel, Mel Rich and Greg Griffes. Well done to all three, but as soon as we get back to our full playing schedule, I'm sure there are going to be lots of contenders for those top spots. We have a good variety of tournament formats lined up for this year, ranging from individual play to scrambles and shambles — all good fun! So, why not join us and become a member of the CMGC. Contact George Herrera at 760-533-0350 for membership information. 32 | THE COLONY NEWS | APRIL 2023 | Gregg Griffes Mike Basel Mel Rich Saturday, June 3, 8 to 10:30 am.
