42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2023 Our Book Club selection for April 11 is The Wayward Bus by John Steinbeck. Here is a brief description from Amazon.com: "In his first novel to follow the publication of his enormous success, The Grapes of Wrath, Steinbeck's vision comes wonderfully to life in this imaginative and unsentimental chronicle of a bus traveling California's back roads, transporting the lost and the lonely, the good and the greedy, the stupid and the scheming, the beautiful and the vicious away from their shattered dreams and, possibly, toward the promise of the future." Our meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:30 am in the RCN room #3, and someone volunteers to lead the discussion about the book we have chosen for the month. Why did we celebrate it? During the month of March, the African American Cultural Club brought attention to the many ways to celebrate Women's History Month. Women's History Month celebrates the countless women who have fought tirelessly and courageously for equality, justice, and opportunity in our nation. We also reaffirm our commitment to advancing rights and opportunities for women and girls in the United States and around the world. Let's celebrate this month with pride, dignity and intention. Historically, purple and green were the colors of International Women's Day. Purple denotes justice and dignity, while green represents the feminist movement. According to LiveYourDream.org, there are 15 ways to celebrate Women's History Month: • Explore the history of women's rights • Be aware of issues women will face • Download the Feminist Activist Toolkit • Post on Social Media to spread awareness of Women's History Month • Support women's nonprofits • Host an event to celebrate women • Support women-owned businesses • Write a thank-you note to women that inspire you • Write yourself a love note • Watch TED Talks for women • Support women authors and artists • Participate in political advocacy • Mentor a girl or fellow woman • Join women's volunteer clubs • Discover your inner Shero! The African American Cultural Club's next meeting will be on April 3 at 6 pm in the Game Room. Invite a friend or a neighbor; everyone is welcome to come join us. For more information, you may contact Wanda Valentine, President, at (951) 544-1606. ~ Sharion Nevills African American Cultural Club At our March gathering, Barbara Dipoma and the Steering Committee held an Italian cooking demonstration. This was a lot of fun and full of cooking tips for those who enjoy cooking. Next month, our own Perry Goldstein will be presenting "Name that Tune" for our club. Perry has helped the Italian American Club many times, and we all have a lot of fun during his presentations. We look forward to challenging songs in the "Name that Tune" part of our club's meeting. Barbara Dipoma and her Steering Committee are planning a bus trip to Little Italy in San Diego in Old Town. No dates or pricing are available at this time, but the trip is on our upcoming agenda and should be a lot of fun. If the Little Italy in San Diego bus trip is anything like the bus trip the club went on to Eataly in Santa Monica, it should be a wonderful day. The Italian American Club is open to all residents of Four Seasons. You do not have to be Italian to join our group or come to our meetings. We would love to have you come visit with us. To all our Italian American Club members and all of Four Seasons, we hope we will see you soon at one of our meetings. Non Vedo L Ori Di Vederti Presto (Looking forward to seeing you soon). ~ Barbara Dipoma, (805) 377-2616 and Jerry Monahan, (951) 212-8898 Italian American Club
