52 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2023
TOPS
For the next several weeks, members of our TOPS (Take off
Pounds Sensibly) group will be presenting the programs.
Candi Epperson started with a well-researched presentation on
salt, how it's hidden in foods, the danger of too much, and substitutes
for salt.
Sue Hilberg invited the group to her home for her presentation on
"Stone Soup," which is an old European story about three soldiers
who enter a village known for its lack of hospitality. When turned
away at several homes, they ask for a cauldron and some water. They
tell the villagers that they will just have to make stone soup.
When they boil the water and add three stones, one tastes it
and says, "Very tasty, but would be even better if we have a couple
of onions." One of the wives then hurries off to get onions. Each
time they taste it, they proclaim it wonderful but just maybe a little
beef, carrots, potatoes, beans, etc. could improve it. The villagers
keep bringing things to the soup which is eventually shared with
everyone. The foolish villagers can't believe that the soup made
from stones is so delicious.
So, each member of our chapter brought a cup of veggies to add
to the pot Sue had boiling on her stove, and sure enough, it was
delicious about an hour later. Of course, she had put three small
stones and some broth in the pot. We all took home soup for lunch.
In our local chapter, this month's Thinner Winner, having lost
the most weight was Charles Caldera, with Chris Gambino in
second place. Success happens with exercise, mindful eating,
motivation, portion control, new recipes, and meeting attendance.
Congratulations you two.
You may find that a group like TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly)
can help you as well. We meet on Tuesday at 8:30 am in the Ballroom.
