FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2023 55
For all the tennis enthusiasts out there, I suspect that you have
been camping out in Indian Wells during the first half of March
soaking up all the unbelievable professional tennis matches. I
confess - yours truly is guilty as well.
With the easing of COVID rules this year, attending the PNB
Paribas Open in Indian Wells was so much easier and enjoyable.
Not only was proof of vaccination not required, masking was also
optional. As such, getting through the lines to get into the venue
was a breeze.
Event organizers did a fantastic job in making attending this
year's event truly unforgettable. Many changes from previous years
were put in place to streamline every detail. Apart from all the
nail-biting matches, general parking was free (used to be $25 per
day), there were firework displays, a drone that lit up the Coachella
Valley sky, many free complimentary gifts, prizes, and giveaways,
and "Dingles" exhibition matches (a combo singles and doubles
format) featuring the legendary Bryan brothers, just to name a few.
In addition, there were daily live music performances in the
afternoon and evening at the Village Stage, including shows put
on by the Bryan Bros. Band and the one and only John McEnroe
and his Johnny Smyth Band. The tennis bad boy didn't even throw
any temper tantrums on stage! So, you must be thinking – "YOU
CANNOT BE SERIOUS!" Ha!
The annual PNB Paribas Open at Indian Wells is regarded as
the biggest tennis tournament following the four major grand
slam events. The grounds of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden are
absolutely gorgeous. We should all feel lucky to be able to attend
this annual event that is a short 45-minute drive and not have to
travel to New York, France, Australia, or England to see all the top
world-class players compete.
So, if you have never attended this event, I urge you to plan on
going next year. You can even bring your family, including grandkids
of all ages, for The Family Day. You won't be disappointed.
See you all at The Courts!
